Little White LiesAnton BitelIbanez uses the island's liminal fringes and barren interiors to trace his heroine's state of mental withdrawal.
User ReviewTanja VTo me, the blending of genres was refreshing. The combination of colors, visual effects and music made it difficult to let go of the atmosphere for a long while afterwards. Angsty and beautiful, my cup of tea. :)
User ReviewDiogo SStarts really good. Ends without completing what you imagine. The details with rewind, sea and owl were great!!! Focus and you'll see it too!
User Reviewnicole mA really interesting spanish psychological thriller
User ReviewRobin TMade with simple but very effective means. I felt pretty miserable throughout the whole movie, like being in a bad place you oughta leave immediatley but you just can't get moving. Kinda like in a nightmare. Yeah I felt the chill. So: Top notch story, excellent camerawork, haunting music and of course - great acting! And I never wanna see this again! This is so not Spain for me. There is no darkness down there...or well, there shouldn't be. Not in "my" Spain anyways :)
User ReviewJosé DKinda didn't go where I was expecting it too. Halluciongenic, bleak and beautiful.
User ReviewGrayson DNicely shot on a barren Canary Island, el Hierro this is an icy horror which never makes clear whether it is supernatural or not. The island itself can be seen as representing the state of the central characters mind and mental disintegration. Anaya in the lead role is very good, so altough far from perfect it is an interesting adition to a spate of maternity and madness horrors.
User ReviewRobin HWater plays an important theme in this film, a subtle mystery/thriller where a woman loses her son on a ferry on the way to the island Hierro. If you're looking for something completely original or with real horror elements, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a beautifully shot and well-produced thriller with subtle surreal effects that play on your mind, give it a look. Elena Anya, the main actress, has also been blessed with different colored eyes, a coincidence that makes her shine on screen.
User ReviewPourya EFrom producers of Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage. Sophisticated cinematography, sustainable suspense and unlike what many critics assess also a consistent dramaturgy and fully comprehensive screenplay. I was even caught by its so called matryoshka twist!
User ReviewTelmo CExcellent movie with a fascinating cinematography and really engaging soundtrack. The plot's predictability affects the overall experience, but this is still a great story about the mind of a mother that lost her child.
