User ReviewJason DClassic Full Moon/Charles Band material, this time about killer mutated fetuses and such. Part 1 of the Jacqueline Lovell trilogy where this chick just goes apeshit with the sex and nudity!!! It helps that shes hot as balls.
User ReviewRodney ENine times out of ten any horror film starring a pornstar (the totally fuckable Jaqueline Lovell) spell dogshit. Not this time! This film is funny as hell and the six main characters are acted out brilliantly by a largely unknown cast (remember the guy from Total Recall with five kids to feed? he's in it!) and the script is genius, bragging insults such as "You castillian, cadaverous dillatont" It also has maybe the funniest private eye ever!
User ReviewBryan GWhen it comes to the majority of Full Moon's movies, you can't really call into question a lot of logic with the stories they are bringing to the screen. Hideous! is one of the more bizarre Full Moon movies I've seen, what with its central characters all being collectors of deformed fetuses. And it also happens to be one of the more enjoyable films I've seen from this studio. The movie doesn't have much merit to it, but in the fashion that it is presented in I came to admire Hideous! a lot. I'm not sure if it was the actors lack of acting abilities, or if each of them were instructed to do so, but Hideous! has some of the most over the top and overly dramatic acting. The characters are presented more like caricatures instead of actual people, but there is a lot of humor that emits from the way these characters are and the way each of the actors portray them. You've got to love a character like Sheila (Jacqueline Lovell), who robs someone at gunpoint wearing only boots, booty shorts and a gorilla mask. Charles Band, who is the head of Full Moon, is rather hit or miss with the features that he's directed for his company. I'm happy to see that Hideous! is one of his more effective films, even with its flaws. And even though the castle that the movie is filmed in has been used in many Full Moon movies before and after, he was able to showcase it in a way that wasn't too distracting. I also liked the inclusion of the acid pit beneath a trap door. The creatures in Hideous! were decently designed, and for the most part were animated fine. The four creatures aren't among the most memorable that Full Moon has created, and Hideous! doesn't put them to much use. There are a few scenes where they do get to kill various characters, but beyond that the film doesn't explore these creatures much or develop them. I wish they could have been a little bit smarter and more sinister like the puppets from the Puppet Master series, or even the toys from Demonic Toys. Hideous! is labeled as a horror film, but I would say that it works more like a comedy. This usually is a bad thing for a horror film, but like many things mentioned before it was one of the many faults that worked in the film's favor. I still don't believe there would be people like the characters in the film that obsess so much over deformed fetuses, well enough to kill over, but at least it makes for an entertaining movie.
User ReviewTim WTwo competing collectors that specializes in human oddities are at war with each other over a freakish new find that they each wish to add to their collection, but they'll have more to fear than each others' inflated egos when their misshapen mutant merchandise awakens the other creatures on the shelf to launch an attack on their eccentric owners. Charles Band returns with another goofy creature feature that takes the absurd camp comedy to a whole other dimension. HIDEOUS is filled with outrageously over the top performances from Michael Citriniti, Mel Johnson Jr., and Tracie May, who play into the silliness of the plot and bring Benjamin Carr's twisted humor to life. The creature designs and special effects are on par with most other Full Moon features of the 90's, with few scares and very little gore. Band sets the mood with a creepy castle that is filled with trap doors, booby traps, and of course, half-naked evil assistants in monkey masks. HIDEOUS is goofy entertainment from beginning to end, and a fun find for B-movie fans. -Carl Manes I Like Horror Movies
User ReviewXenomorph FHideous! Not many people have seen this film, its a shame. Its pretty good with a gang of little mutated babies which look really cool (Mark Rapport or worked with David Allen on the Puppet Master designs did the creatures). Its one of the good Fullmoon movies, and is more like Blood Dolls meets Killers Tomatoes, then something like Gingerdead man or Dollman. The creatures are hardly seen in the movie which is another shame. I wondered how they were so smart since they understood English i'm glad one character had some smart ass awnser to the question. The ending looks like it wanted a sequal but just didnt catch on, one scene was even ripped off later in Decandent Evil 1.
User ReviewRobert HAnother Full Moon movie with puppets? Of course! Hideous is one of those Full Moon films that doesn't quite scream awesome but is still much better than a lot of the films they put out. The acting is way over the top camp and the entire concept of the film is one that I don't think any sane person would have come up with. Everything about the film screams garbage but it still manages to entertain in that campy popcorn flick way.
