Los Angeles Times - 4/10 by Martin TsaiThere are tangible improvements in the techniques of writer-director Terron R. Parsons. But some of the nagging plot holes remain unresolved.
User Review - 10/10 by clinton eI'm blown away by how great this movie was
User Review - 2/10 by Kevin RI never saw the first Hayride. And after this movie I don't have any inclination on ever watching it. I don't mean to suggest that nobody involved in the making of the film, both cast and crew, at the very least didn't try, because I do think that there was some effort put into this. But it's one of those low-budget horror movies where the budget clearly did a number on what could've been done. The acting is piss-poor honestly and the gore is even worse. There's a lot of implied violence because of the fact that they didn't have a lot of money to showcase any of it in a believable manner. There's the one scene when Pitchfork himself escapes from the ambulance where he stabs the driver in the neck. This is, by far, the bloodiest scene in the entire movie. It looks like they blew their entire budget for blood on this one scene and the rest of the movie suffered for it. I will admit that the film does have a decent enough look in the sense that there's no real glitz to it. This is, from what I can gather, meant to be a more believable slasher than an over-the-top one, like the Hatchet series. And I can understand that reasoning. It's something to, at the very least, give the film its own identity over the countless slashers that are out there. But the film lacks a tension that it would've benefited greatly from. There's no real sense of dread. You don't ever understand why people fear this guy. I mean yea he has a pitchfork, how creative, and he goes around killing people, but I never buy into people being that horrified of him. Particularly when you take into consideration that the guy is immobile as shit and, yet, he finds all these ways to kill all these people. And it never occurs to anybody that, um, you know, you can gang up on him. What the fuck is he going to do? At the very least in other films, it always takes something super extraordinary in order to kill the monster because they're not of this world. Pitchfork is, supposedly, of this world, and this is a point the film tries to make. Not saying that it would be easy to dispatch him, but if there were 5-6 people, I'm pretty sure they could take him. Of course, everyone is an idiot in these films, so it is what it is. The tone of the film itself is fairly bleak. I just think it takes itself too seriously. Maybe it's not to the point where it invites mockery, but it definitely takes itself a little too seriously. Which I guess, again, would be part of what makes this film 'different' from your regular slasher. But I just think there was something off about the film's choice of tone and mood. Like I mentioned, the acting is fairly bad. There's some 'fight' scenes near the climax that look just outright embarrassing. But, again, that's just the pitfall of having a low budget. This is a bad movie all around, but one that I can't bring myself to shit on because, in some ways, I do think that it makes an effort to stand out from the pack of slashers. It may not always succeed, but at least they make the effort, it's just that it didn't really pan out due to budgetary issues. With that said, I still wouldn't recommend this movie in the least. It's not what you would call a good horror movie. It's not even so bad that it's entertaining. It's just bad.
User Review - 0/10 by JCdark2889This film sucked so much that I can't believe what I saw when I saw it. It was so bad that it made campy look good and I saw where they tried to be deep and meaningful. But it did not work at all. I'd rather watch my stroke victim grandmother soil herself than to watch this again.
