User ReviewJeremi SPeanuts is in great hands. The people who made this obviously have an excellent understanding of what the work of Charles Schulz was all about. This is the closest to the classic specials from the 1960s we can get. The material is all drawn from original Peanuts comic strips from that era. The characters look and sound like the characters from the classic holiday specials. Only the characters from that era are present. This "movie" (it is less than 50 minutes long, but probably the perfect length) provokes thought and is deeper and more insightful than most children's animation from any era. It is not paced like modern animation; it is paced like a classic Peanuts special. It offers a chance to slow down, take a deep, calming breath, and consider who we are and why we do the things we do. We all have a security blanket, even though it's probably not a blanket and may not be easily noticed by others. If you enjoy the classic Peanuts specials, such as "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", this movie is a must-have. By understanding what made the original specials truly special, the creators of "Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown" have made a new classic, almost 50 years later, and for that we should all be grateful to them and support this work, in hopes more like this will be made.
User ReviewMikey WGood ol' Charlie Brown is back *sighs with joy.*
User ReviewCaleb CVery happy with this, in the same vein as the cartoons from the 60s and taking a lot from Schultz's original stories, I was in Peanuts heaven for an hour again.
User ReviewTom M5.0 out of 5 stars Charles Schulz Would Be Very Pleased, February 7, 2012 By Doubting Thomas (Queens, NY) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Happiness Is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy Comb... (Blu-ray) Like Linus being deprived of his blanket, Peanuts fans have been going through withdrawal since Charles Schulz left us 12 years ago. When I found out they had made a new Peanuts special, I said, "Good Grief! How could they?!" Because the creator was not at the helm, I was fully prepared not to like this. I was very happy to see that the folks who put this together got it right! They perfectly captured the angst of the Peanuts strip as well as the look/sound/feel of the early Peanuts TV specials from the 60s. Stephan Pastis, the writer (who does "Pearls Before Swine," my current favorite strip), Andy Beall, the director, and Jamie Simone, the voice director, all deserve the appreciation of Peanuts fans, as do the producers, who took a chance on this project. All involved clearly love and respect the work of Charles Schulz and have treated it with tender loving care. Minor quibble/question: The trademark "Linus and Lucy" theme music is noticeably absent. Strains of Vince Guaraldi's "Little Birdy" can be heard, though, yet I didn't see his name in the credits. Now, how about a "Pearls Before Swine" special? :)
User ReviewLiz KA thoroughly entertaining Peanuts flick with hand-drawn and water-color backgrounds, authentic children's voices, and a situation people can relate to, albeit indirectly. All in all, it is proof that Peanuts can be done without Charles Schulz, and done well.
