It charts the breakdown of a working class family when the teenage daughter befriends a refugee girl. Helen has been married to Paul for 25 years. They live a monotonous and frozen existence. Helen is desperate, damaged, and looking for change. Paul - bitter, hypocritical and bigoted, sick and tired of being in the poverty trap - is on the brink of a breakdown. His biggest fear is change. Into their lives comes Tasha, a Romany Czech refugee, awaiting her British passport and her chance for freedom - a concept taken for granted by all those around her. Told in three revelatory narratives, each from a particular character's point of view, reveals how the disintegration of an ordinary working class family finally comes to a head when unexpected emotions are unleashed.

Movie Reviews

ViewLondon - 8/10 by Matthew TurnerThe film is brilliantly acted ... [Pauline] McLynn, in particular, is fantastic, whilst [Chloe] Serene (who's actually English) is something of a revelation.
Filmcritic.com - 8/10 by Don WillmottGive a small group of excellent actors a tightly wound story, give them the freedom to improvise and run around a bit, and then stay out of their way. The results can be powerful
Shadows on the Wall - 8/10 by Rich ClineTells a complex story from three perspectives, and has something important to say about one of the UK's hottest topics.
User Review - 10/10 by Lee Mvery real, great acting, an unusual way of story telling, you get to see the point of view of each main character.
User Review - 10/10 by David GThis movie enticed me into googling an hour on Czech refugees, the Roma, British immigration laws, and the racism immigrants endured to understand the context this story was woven into. I learned a lot watching this movie. It is a beautiful story of people relating, told from three points of view, concerning a tired but artistically driven housewife, her depressed and xenophobic husband, and a young woman from the Czech Republic. Wonderful.
User Review - 10/10 by Luke HFantastic - with many twists and turns and surprises. The Dogme 95 style was a bit grating at first, but I soon got used to it, and it did work very well. As others have said, it takes a little while to get going, but once it does, I was hooked. I thought Helen looked familiar, but it's only on reading some of the other comments that I realised it was Mrs "go on, go on, go on" Doyle. I have to say that Paul McGann was possibly the weakest link, but you can't have everything.
User Review - 10/10 by Leo SAnother under rate film that is worth seeing.
User Review - 8/10 by Brandy LInteresting to see the same story told from three different points of view. Paul McGann is fab, even when he plays a total jerk.
User Review - 8/10 by Stuart Ba dogme? set in shitty thanet? in kent where i grew up? oh yes please! it's surprisingly good and is compelling viewing with the film being divided into three parts, with the one story being shown from the each of the three different characters' perspectives. it deals with real issues of our attitudes to other people and how crap our own lives are and how badly we deal with it. great performances from the three leads as well, especially paul mcgann.
User Review - 8/10 by Linda Sone can be distracted by the shaky camera movement at first but that part is quickly forgotten as soon as you hear the characters speak. the acting, completely stunning, will engross you as the actors embody their characters so well, you are convinced you are some omniscient witness to the story. filmed in the dogme style, this "three point perspective", between a haggard mother, her indifferent/unloving/bigoted husband, and a young female refugee all striving to escape the stagnance and suffocation of their lives in search of something better, should be well lauded.
