Los Angeles TimesRobert AbeleOften exhibiting the best of DIY cinema sensibilities — a mixture of focus, mood, and lived-in characterizations — Green is Gold augurs good things for the multi-hyphenate Baxter.
VarietyScott TobiasBaxter packs the film with sound insights on masculinity and young adulthood, as well as the hand-to-mouth realities of black-market farming.
The Hollywood ReporterJustin LoweBoth unassuming and surprisingly affecting in its DIY authenticity.
User Reviewalfred g"If you're going to do wrong, make sure you do it right." Love this quote. Great job for a small indie film.
User ReviewTom LFinally a show about cannabis that isn't juvenile. Weeds started strong and spun out of control. Disjointed had a good situation for a sitcom-aging cannabis activist Ruth starts a marijuana dispensary and really does offer some healing. But the show was weighed down with dopey stonerisms. Green is Gold, in contrast, is authentic and delves into what life is like for uneducated white kids with parents behind bars. Older brother Ryan is disciplined, hard-working, and takes seriously his role as surrogate dad for his younger brother. But he is uneducated and his father is behind bars, he has few options available. The movie is really a study in the creation of character in an environment that provides little support for it.
User ReviewWill LAwesome Movie. It's told in a way that keeps you engaged
User ReviewHank BThis movie is delicate,it's perfect for chillin'.
User ReviewPatrick WThe director really captures the brotherly love and the bond these two brothers gained. You get the anxiety as If you were involved and know the risks these two brothers were in. Great videotography and music. Highly recommend this to anyone, even if you have no interest in marijuana as the plot.
User ReviewBrent MVery realistic. One of the few movies or shows that appears to be real plants and green and not some props. Even the growing is very realistic.
User ReviewRicky WRealistic but couldn't see the point.
