Seventeen-year-old Grantham has just entered juvenile detention. Tattooed and hiding behind a tough exterior, he instantly clashes with his fellow inmates. This brings him to the attention of Rose, an elderly volunteer who mentors some of the boys. Rose has a unique style that is tough, wise, and unpredictable. Sensing something special in him, she offers an outrageous proposal to Grantham. She wants him to accompany her on a journey, the purpose of which she won't reveal. She is able and willing to spring him if he agrees. At first he thinks she is crazy, but Rose is crazy like a fox. She sneaks him out under everyone's noses and off they go. This is a charming and unexpected twist on that pillar of American cinema: the road trip. These are two people meant to clash ferociously, as well as to change each other in ways they could never anticipate.

| User ReviewCharles SI thought this was a simple sweet movie. It seemed as if it were somehow unfinished, or maybe a new movie by a new director? But all in all, i found it to be heartwarming and I enjoyed it. Jake T Austin, who played the male lead, I havent seen him in anything else, but I would like to. |
| User ReviewCatharine HI also saw this at the Cleveland International Film Festival 2014. Like Copenhagen, it shares themes of a romantic relationship between a twenty-something and an under-aged teen as well as a youth who doesn't want to repeat the mistakes of an absent parent. Grantham (Austin), Rose (Gibbs), and Wallis (Thompson) are the three main travelers in the story. Everything, including the character names and motivations, has that quirky, indie, student-film feel. It doesn't quite seem polished. I think the biggest fault with the movie is the script: the dialogue, the character development, the inclusion of certain scenes. The writer, Ryan Spahn, acts in the film as well. What is the purpose of this film? Are the characters supposed to be real or is it intended to be more tongue-in-cheek? The poster is misleading since it was shown in black-and-white. Black-and-white film stock or a black-and-white digital effect doesn't make sense for the story. It left me unimpressed. |
