After the mysterious disappearance of an oil well owner, one of his workers, Gerardo (Jorge Negrete) assumes the business management. Soon, the owner's sister (Libertad Lamarque) arrives from Argentina, and, believing that Gerardo killed her brother to keep the wells for himself, she starts working as a singer under a false name in the same casino her brother disappeared, in order to find out what exactly happened.... | User ReviewGreg Wfor bunuel completists only. it really isnt very good. this is the only movie ive seen where the commentary guy explicity said 'this isnt very good...it would be forgotten if it didnt have bunuels name on it.' he even dismissed it. however, it is bunuel and his first feature film. |
| User ReviewAaron GMinor Bunuel picture, featuring musical numbers by its two stars! This was Bunuel's first film in Mexico and he didn't really have too much creative freedom, as it was mainly a vehicle for Mr. Negrete and Ms. Lamarque, who were already a little long on the tooth. The film flopped at the box-office and almost ended this great director's career in Mexico, almost as soon as it began. |
