The teenager Hawk Kodiak has just left a juvenile facility to live with the Eddie Palmer, who owns a diner in Rockwell. Hawk arrives in the small town by bus bringing a basketball, and befriends the local Joey Larch. Then he goes to the high school, where he meets Eddie's niece Colbie Palmer, who drives him home. | User ReviewJason RMr Dark's Film Review: God Don't Make The Laws: Last night I finally got to watch God Don't Make The Laws. I have been wanting to actually watch this film for sometime, namely because I worked on it and when we were filming it the plot didn't make a whole lot of sense. However I worked on the film and I am proud of it, and I even saw myself sitting in the back in the church scene in a few frames. So was it a fun project to work on? Well yes for the most part although it was made in the middle of december and we have 3 or so weeks of exterior shots in the freezing cold for 18 hours a day. It was a fun film to work on, and I met some pretty cool people, and of course some not so cool people. However that is the way of things in any endeavor. Well I finally saw it and now that you know that it was one of the films I worked on I will go ahead and let you know my review of it without giving away any spoilers. First off the film is decently made, but i was put off by the whole made for tv movie feel of it. The soundtrack was horrible. I mean just plain horrible, and not even in a nice way. It was horrible to the point that it really took away from the film with the goofy terribly written and performed songs that were often times much too loud for the scene, and even inappropriate at times. The performances by Ella Rae Peck, and Chase Coleman, Paul Sorvino, Bruce Davison, Amber Mikesell and all of the others in the film were actually very very well done. In fact all of the performances except for Tiffany Arnold were quite well done and I applaud them on that. Tiffany was just not believable to me at all. However that is personal preference. The lighting was well done, the cinematography was pretty good as well. The overall look of the film etc was a pretty good effort altogether, and we all worked very hard on that project and so I mean no disrespect. However..... the constant injections of goofy sophomoric philosphical drivel, and the sometimes embarrassingly poor writing on the project along with the horrendous soundtrack left a lot to be desired. that is all on the writer, director and editor however. The film picks up pace nearing the end of it and it all starts to sort of make sense, but early on and for half the film it seems even confused with itself in certain restraints. It never really finds it's pulse. Or it's passion, and that is through no fault of the crew, or the cast, but a problem with the writing itself. All in all it is a very interesting and unusual idea, that just wasn't quite executed to the best of it's ability. With that said I did enjoy it, and it brought back flashbacks watching it of all the troubles we went through making that film. It is not a horror film, and as a result it is one of the more interesting films we have worked on. All in all I like it and despite it's shortcomings I think it is a pretty good attempt. My advice would be to replace the soundtrack immediately. Major put off that. However due to the performances and the unusual idea i give it a thumbs up and I think you should definately check it out. |
