New York City. 1987. A new group of individuals arrives to fill the artistic power vacuum created by Andy Warhol's untimely death and the demise of his "Factory", in the form of The Club Kids. They would reign supreme over The City's nightlife through an era of decadence, debauchery and creative heights, which culminated with the death of one of them as well as the party itself. Their undisputed leader was Michael Alig, who came to New York with dreams of working in the fashion industry, only to find himself at the head of a nightlife movement which went far beyond anyone's expectations, reaching outrageous proportions. It ultimately imploded catastrophically with Michael going to prison for the murder and dismemberment of fellow Club Kid and drug dealer Angel Melendez. This coincided with the death of the NYC Super-Club era.

User Review - 6/10 by Nick U12/20/16 Netflix What a total freak show. Living in the Midwest I was not aware of the NYC Club scene and the Club Kids so this was an interesting and eye opening movie for me. It's amazing how some people can take life to the outer edges.
User Review - 6/10 by Mike Mserviceable documentary about murderous club kid Michael Alig. What's most interesting is how much the talking heads seem to be really living in the past and never quite found anything else in life.
User Review - 6/10 by Luke BMichael Alig has always interested me as well as the whole club kid scene from the old 70s and 80s NYC subcultures that existed. The documentary walks you through his story.
User Review - 4/10 by Matthew F. JRamon Fernandez is undoubtedly fascinated by his subject but delivers a documentary that isn't quite as concise and tight as it could have been. My major critic would be about the editing. The various characters interviewed throughout the film are alternated so rapidly that one does't have the time to know / understand who are these people talking about Alig. The party monster himself only arrives late in the documentary and then takes over the limelight with John Saint James. I thought it wasn't necessary to have them explain the reasons why they were going around town and having a laugh. Man it's been 17 years since Michael killed angel, of course he had time to reflect upon his sins and has turned the page. So in a way its good because Michael doesn't really play the sorry card and seems to really be looking forward to his liberation and moving on with his life, but in a way it makes him a bit cold and some might perceive his turn in this film as something distasteful. Some of the people interviewed have strong one sided opinion about aligning and his glory Days a a club kid in NYC pre Giulianni era . I'm not convinced by the choices of what was edited out and what was left in. I would have enjoyed a little more pragmatism here but it seems Fernandez was more into capturing a certain atmosphere and set up the release of Michael rather than straight forward documenting the events then & now. It's a choice and Fernandez seems to assume it all the way. Definitely interesting in many ways but also lacking focus and concision in its form and content.
User Review - 4/10 by Jenn MI wasn't a big fan. this was more like a really tame MTV musician documentary in which it's basically all interviews with people and no actual storyline. I was expecting something more like American justice or another crime documentary but this wasn't it. it almost seemed to be defending Alig, which I thought was unusual.
User Review - 2/10 by Carol MI cringed every time I heard the voice of this unrepentant sociopath who is one of the saddest excuses for humanity I've ever seen. Alig makes the statement "They stole New York from me". No, it was more like the murderer threw his life away when he bludgeoned a man with a hammer in his apartment, proceeded to smother him and inject him with Drano just to make sure he was dead. It doesn't end there, he left the corpse of "Angel Melendez" to rot for a week and returned to the apartment to dismember and discard Mr. Melendez's remains. What a waste of anyone's life to sit through Alig's story and his gagable lifeless still hangers on.
