Movie Reviews

Moviedex - 3/10 by Alex Lindsey Jones[Tries] to cash in on the style of much better films like Sin City but unfortunately comes off more like a carbon copy of other bad films like The Spirit.
User Review - 10/10 by Adam VA unique way of glorifying 40's mob shooters with new age gangster tones. I recommend this to people who enjoy shoot 'em up type movies and for those who enjoy the cliche and easily remembered one liners. Thomas Jane is brilliant and Ving Rhames is freaking awesome. 5 stars ALL AROUND
User Review - 10/10 by Hopper Ka detective story 50's style...awesome, i love it. PS. it is violent and fairly graphic lol! :-P
User Review - 10/10 by Bill FGreat film noir updated for modern audiences.
User Review - 10/10 by Matt SThis hilarious and awesome film takes the noir detective films and turns them on its head. A combination between a tribute and satire on the genre, it delivers one fun ride. This is what The Spirit was supposed to be like. Its soo fun and so great.
User Review - 10/10 by Noname  I seriously don't see how anyone that watches this can't love it. Don't get me wrong, the movie is a complete cliche of everything noir and Dick Tracy combined. However, if you are watching the movie because you like Thomas Jane then you may be disappointed. The movie is not "hey I'm Thomas Jane, come watch me act." It is Give 'em Hell Malone. This seems to be the brunt of most of the bad reviews when it comes to this movie. Everyone appears to just want to see Thomas Jane being Thomas Jane, and they forget that is going out of his comfort zone in this movie. Now then: Storyline, confusing at first but very nice. It is about as guessable as most Hollywood based flicks these days. The only true complaint about this movie that I have is that at times it is very hard to hear what Malone is saying unless you have your speakers turned way up. Of course this becomes an issue when the following sequence is a shoot out and you wake up every neighbor within a 3 block radius because they think a drive by is occurring at your house. The story overall was well done in my opinion, and Matchstick is by far the best character in the movie. The dry humor and one-liners are the absolute best part of this movie. One of the best parts of the movie is Matchstick telling Malone "At first when I got burned I thought fire hated me. But you know what I realized? You know what I learned Malone? I learned that fire is my friend." To which Malone replies "What you should've learned was not to play with matches." Just the simple one liners such as that make this a great movie. It is definitely not in everyone's taste and most women that I know do not like the movie. I am still hoping they finish the story by making a second part to this movie.
User Review - 10/10 by Bobby LA rather excellent noir. And boy oh boy, is this ever noir! It's so fully entrenched in that classic style of it, with double crosses, femme fatales (multiples), hard boiled voice over, and all that usual stuff. It wouldn't matter if it wasn't done well, but it is done extremely well, with Thomas Jane being rather excellent here, and that's saying something. He suits this world nicely, and is surrounding by a game supporting cast, including Ving Rhames and French Stewart; I know, odd, right? Russell Mulcahy, who's last film was Scorpion King 2, but is most notable for Highlander, does an excellent job here, keeping everything running smooth. I also applaud and really enjoyed his choice of dressing up Malone and a few of the other main characters in typical 40s costumes and gave them proper items from then as well, but kept in the present day. The style clash makes for an interesting effect I thought worked well. The heavily stylized violence, at points, almost becoming 300-esque, but not as dumb, looks really good, and the gore effects are solid and not over-the-top. The ending is rather perfect, with a few nice twists, that while fun, weren't impossible to see coming. Hard boiled, shoot 'em first, fun.
User Review - 8/10 by Richard GIf youre into noir, this movie does it. Just saw it. Keeps you locked in. The action and the characters, over the top yet fun
User Review - 8/10 by Aaron SThe first 5 minutes of this movie are terrible. But wait! After tat, it actually gets great. It's Dick Tracy meets Punisher in what can only be described as what Thomas Jane would have done with Punisher: Warzone. It will make you wish he did it instead. In fact, let's just replace that terrible awful horrendous movie with this fun, entertaining wild ride of memorable characters and ultra violent shock therapy. Must watch!
User Review - 8/10 by Cole MHey, this could be a remake of the Punisher, as Tom Jane plays a private investigator, who goes after a case and redemption...against people who killed his family?! Thats right, his wife and son are killed by bad guys...sound like the Punisher? And he is very skilled at hand to hand combat and use of weapons. Great tough guy acting by Jane and Ving Rhames, this is a good film that pays homage to older cop flicks. Plenty of twists and turns, and you find out Malone's family may actually still be alive. Lots of witty one liners and plenty of action to satisfy you bloodthirsty gore hounds, I came into this movie not expecting to much but came away quite impressed.
