Antagony & EcstasyTim BraytonOne of the finest Japanese monster movies... nuanced in its story and character, bold in its visual dynamism.
User ReviewDave AMy god! The series reaches a paramount with the release of Gamera III! Not only that, but this entry in the Gamera series slaughters the wave of Godzilla movies that were being turned out left and right around the same time with a better story and convincing drama! The Godzilla series would not pick up until Shusuke Kaneko the director of Gamera trilogy would take the directors chair with Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (arguably one of the best out of the later series). Anyway Gamera III features some of the best giant monster action known to man, and even dabbles with CGI (done almost flawlessly here!!!) in the best Gamera movie known to date! There is drama, ESP, blood, death and an ending that will leave any monster fan speechless. The series sadly concludes with this mighty epic (although the ending has it left open for a sequel, Daiei unfortunately sold the rights to the series and the follow up Gamera: Little Braves is a disgusting attempt to identify Gamera as the Guardian of Children once again instead of the Universe?) as Gamera acquires a new powerful weapon to battle the unholy Iris. If you are a giant monster fan, there is no excuse for not checking this movie out already!
User ReviewMatt SNow i like Godzilla ... alot ... but this is the BEST monster movie off all, who would think that a giant flying turtle could be repersented so realistically.
User ReviewPaul EThe best giant monster movie to ever come out of Japan, and I include the original Gojira (Godzilla). The special effects are near flawless, the human performances beneficial, the writing and directing well done. I can't think of an American summer blockbuster in the last 10 years (with the exception of Batman Begins and Lord of the Rings) that put so much genuine thought into its story as this one did. See, this is what happens when you show PROPER respect to your source material. Gamera is the ultimate anti-hero, and in many ways is portrayed as the actual male lead of the film WITHOUT things becoming goofy. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin take note: THIS is how you make a monster movie.
User ReviewBen DYeah. This movie is incredible. It's even good, if not great, by movie standards, and not just giant monster standards. Only a handful of other giant monster movies compare.
User ReviewBrannon HThe best of the trilogy. Gamera is fed up trying to save humanity and just does his job without caring about us. Amazing effects, decent story, terrific fights. AWESOME!!
User ReviewDave VI am a H U G E Godzilla fan BUT I've got to admit, this MAY be THE BEST Kaiju film EVER! Ever wonder what it would look like if two giant monsters fought in the streets in front of you? Wonder no more! This film is INCREDIBLE! I've shown it to some of my friends who HATE Kaiju and even they loved it! Check it out - it is SO worth it!
