Hindustan Times - 6/10 by Anupama ChopraThere is enough pep in Fukrey to make it pleasantly diverting. I'm not suggesting that you drop everything and get to the theatre. But if you happen to stroll in, you are likely to come out smiling.
Variety - 4/10 by Ronnie ScheibNothing really coheres in this unimaginative mishmash.
The New York Times - 4/10 by Rachel SaltzToo often it calls to mind the much better “Delhi Belly,” which had a genuinely madcap script and sharper things to say about being young, urban and Indian.
User Review - 10/10 by Mirza Mohd SMadcap comedy totally. Must watch. Sardars acting is awesome.
User Review - 6/10 by ThegodfathersonFukrey is a good genial romp. Hunny and Choocha, played by Pulkit Samrat and debutant Varun Sharma are buddies whose only aspiration is to get into the coolest college in town. Zafar, played by Ali Fazal, is a struggling musician and Lali, played by Manjot Singh, is the hapless son of a halwai who watches his girl, who already attends the cool college, get enamored by big cars and slick guys. Lali, Hunny and Choocha desperately want to get into the college (Hunny and Choocha fantasize about riding in on horses) but none have the grades. The leaked exam papers cost Rs. 50,000 each. And so begins a journey that takes them to the wily college watchman Punditji, played by the terrific Pankaj Tripathi and Bholi Punjaban played by Richa Chadda, the local mistress of vices. Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba gives us a theatre of the absurd set in East Delhi. The characters and actors are a perfect match. Pulkit embodies the over-confident charmer and Manjot looks comically sweet and bewildered all the time. But my favourite was Varun as the foolish and always-in-heat Choocha whose dreams kick-start the entire mess he manages to be both, idiotic and endearing. Ram Sampath’s boisterous score add to the rough and tumble feel of the film. But the problem with Fukrey is that the characters and milieu are more engaging than the plot, which gets more far-fetched as it thickens. By the time we get to a rave party and drugs, the outrageousness of the story becomes exhausting. Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba gives us a theatre of the absurd set in East Delhi. Anything is possible, including a financial windfall from a character who seems tacked on to save the day. But there is enough pep in Fukrey to make it pleasantly diverting. User Review - 6/10 by Raisul I'Fukrey' is Delhi slang for people with boastful mouth but falling short in action when required. It can also mean idle and/or street smart people who waste time doing nothing. 'Vella' and 'Lukha' are another nearby slangs used for such people (courtesy: Mumbaikars). The movie is a well made comedy with apt name and casting and is pleasant to watch. Direction and acting are also good. It deals with the money requirement of idle duds (read ultra weak students) to gain shortcut into college by buying question paper(s). Their sole motivation for college admission is proximity to girl(s)). To facilitate this, they go to the extreme length of borrowing money from a local mistress of vices and in the process suffer heavily. In the movie, the kind of euphoria the protagonists attach to the simple act of getting admission or entry into college is something new and worth watching. As mentioned earlier, all characters fit the bill and have performed well. But the icing on the cake is the debutant Varun Sharma who has played the role of gawky, child like and puberty-excited 'Chucha' to the T. His acting is fresh, original and consistent. With him on the screen, you are well assured of genuine laughter. This is a great achievement for a debutant. Pulkit seems to be acting 'the hero' of the movie, wherein in reality no such character exists. Only if that misconception was erased from his performance, the bar of the movie would have raised a few notches higher. Nevertheless his performance is very controlled as compared to his first and preceding movie 'Bittoo Boss'. Ali has done justice to his melancholic and introvert character and has refrained from using unnecessary nuances in his acting. Richa's ease of use of expletives is something new on Indian screen. Hats off to her to mumble such dialogues with such natural ease. But unlike other characters, somewhere her character is not well defined. It ranges from being a local (read street) mistress to that of an anti social boss! Navjot is good in poker faced comedy. It is surprising to witness such well woven comedy from Mrigdeep whose last directorial venture was 'Teen Thay Bhai' which was a depressing comedy in spite of the presence of good actors (Om Puri, Shreyas Talpade) in the movie!
User Review - 6/10 by shishir aTime pass comedy with some interesting characters.
User Review - 6/10 by Hardik GThe story was innovative & quirky, but it falters at some points in between especially the meaningless love story & at times overdose of funny choocha :P
User Review - 6/10 by GAndharv BFun and time pass. Especially Varun Sharma's (Choocha) character. The factor that drives the movie and Richa Chadhha (bhooli panjaban).
User Review - 6/10 by Gaurav SNot bad! Fukrey isn't as sharp as 'Delhi Belly', but has a bigger heart. The film is hugely inspired by the first 20 minutes of Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye as Manjot continues his "Daddy ji" mode while Richa Chadha takes Dolly one step further. The 'Choocha' guy doesn't pull off a Jonah Hill but the unknown Hunny is here to stay. There is not much in the plot, some decent laughs here and there, and it gets watchable, at least once.
