Hector, a young Mexican national and border-crossing migrant farm laborer, has boxing abilities just like his late father had. He could perhaps be good if he learned to think along with his pummeling, then he could do better for his ailing mother than pull in a few side dollars from small-time, illegal gambling fights. Getting on the bad side of racist Texas farmer Big Al and his cocky, pugilist son Robert, puts Hector in touch with an alcoholic trainer named Billy who, nevertheless, can teach him to be better. It all comes down to an arranged, high-stakes match between Hector and the 20-pounds more muscular Robert in which Hector's only hope is to demonstrate he can keep his head in the game.

Movie Reviews

Austin Chronicle - 7/10 by Marc SavlovThis up-from-the-fields slice of Tejano pride is a punchy, melodramatic piece of tried-and-true Americana that mixes cultures (and film genres) with an eye toward knocking down borders both cultural and contemporary.
L.A. Weekly - 6/10 by F.X. FeeneyWhatever its surface predictabilities, From Mexico With Love has the virtue of coaxing you to care about its people.
Variety - 4/10 by Joe LeydonThere's scarcely a boxing-movie cliche left unrecycled by the end of From Mexico With Love, an inaptly titled and thoroughly predictable indie drama directed by vet stunt coordinator and fight choreographer Jimmy Nickerson.
L.A. Weekly - 4/10 by F. X. FeeneyEconomy be damned, lack of originality is the silent killer.
User Review - 10/10 by Kayla Pthis movie is inspirational, and a great story about Mexican immagrants. this is a must see!!!
User Review - 8/10 by MAX MThe First Person boxing visuals were great. Never seen boxing done so well in a movie. It felt like you were in the ring. The movie told the story of the struggles of being an immigrant farm worker in the US. I have never seen anything like this before but I would have to say this is a must see. Enjoy!
User Review - 6/10 by David Rliked it...good unkown actors...even liked the story.
User Review - 6/10 by Jorge OA film that seems lacking somewhere. It is not because there is no action - there is, but not in excess. Nor is it because there is no drama - there is, but again not in excess. As an introverted story it does not really work either. But even if the ending is in some ways predictable, there is still several sides of the film which were moving - which gives it three stars in my book. Plus a great supporting performance from the great actor Bruce McGill.
User Review - 4/10 by Kirsten COver the years, the story of the victimized illegal immigrant has been told countless times. The struggles and trials of a seemingly innocent people are always played out to manipulate an audience into feeling empathy toward their plight despite their getting themselves into it. From Mexico with Love is a story that is no different in what it depicts--and even less different in how it makes you feel. At times, there are nuggets of poignancy as we see the rise of a young farm worker in Texas; from mere seasonal picker to a bona fide boxing star (in his own right.) Overall, however, the plot lacks scope and ends up feeling too inwardly focused. What the film is trying to be is a mock-up of a Rocky sequel gone south of the border, but it ends up feeling like watching two kids playing boxers in their backyard. Other questions of morality and family values come to the surface. The ruthless American farm owner (stereotypical as the Mexicans portrayed in the film) aims to thwart the hopes and dreams of our little Ricky--eh, Rocky--character. Some insipid romantic antics are thrown in as a desperate attempt at inciting some sort of connection to the female audience; but that ends up feeling forced and, ultimately, ends up being unnecessary. If the tribulations of a people are to be taken seriously by outsiders who may already have a skewed opinion on the matter then movies like this one definitely do not help the cause. But, as far as entertainment goes, this movie meets the demands of an audience who may just be into seeing a pretty boy overcome obstacles and "better" himself. Through boxing. If the stereotypical glove fits...
User Review - 2/10 by Carlos BThis movie offers nothing - too predictable story plus Kuno Becker once again plays a guy fighting for his dreams - this time for money. Maybe boxing visuals aren't bad but as long as there's nothing else to see I don't think it's worth seeing at all.
