Frau Sixta (Franziska Kinz) lives in the Austrian alps, near to the italian border and is head of a post station. After her man died she also has to take care of the farm. One day a stranger arrives with the stagecoach. Markus (Gustav Fröhlich) is a retired major, who wants to start a new life in Italy. Frau Sixta persuades him to stay and manage the farm and they begin having an affair. After some time, Frau Sixtas daughter Otti (Ilse Werner) comes home from boarding school...
