rec.arts.movies.reviewsLouis ProyectKurds feuding with Turks in the streets of Germany. Reminiscent of "Los Olvidados" or "Pixote". Grim but rewarding.
AV ClubScott TobiasShot with such grit that the lenses seem coated with grease, Fratricide offers a myopic impression of an unnamed German city, and that's probably the point, since so much of its territory and opportunities are sealed off from these immigrant characters.
VarietyJay WeissbergA hard-hitting, ultimately tragic tale of the struggle for identity among Kurdish emigres in urban Germany.
User ReviewDamien BABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The story and characters are seared into my brain forever. And it's a universal story, shared by millions of refugees and immigrants, legal or not. No frills, no cold blue filter or polarized effect usually employed for such a subject, nor any of the heavy dreariness indie films usually pander to for such a subject either, no sentimentalism, no end message with figures attached, but spirit and dignity in the tragedy of human kind. ABSOLUTELY MUST SEE (I recommend on a sunday night, or on a Tuesday to set you off right for the week).
User ReviewJeremy DUnbelievably good movie... Something we should all see.
User ReviewRichard CDamn good film about camaraderie, loyalty to one's way of life, comeuppance, and the uselessness of division among assimilating cultures. It's on the Kurdish and Turkish disputes, but still retains relevance for any two distinct cultures. The protagonist and his daily adversity is all too harsh, topped with the supervision of a minor who's been exposed to the same raw climate. Once the eye-for-an-eye theme picks up some momentum, it's a dangerous foregone conclusion.
User ReviewDavid HWhat a Shocking Movie!!! Neo Realismo Brutalo!!! And that in Germany!!! The Kurdish-Turkish Conflicts enraged in the Citys of Germany!!! Never seen such a a Brutal Neo Realism Film but im curious on a Urban African Film Festival i visit soon!!! Cinematography, Soundtrack & Acting are Perfect!!!
User ReviewSven DGreat screenplay and ambitious movie! Put together a little weak but definitely worth watching.
User ReviewDarren HFratricide adds unique layers to a familiar country bumpkin-in-the-big city story. Think "Midnight Cowboy" involving two Kurdish youths sticking together to survive an uncaring German city and a long-standing conflict with the Turks. Throw-in some guttural images of piss, spit, blood and guts. "Kite Runner" this ain't.
