Leave your thoughts about Five Shaolin Masters.
User ReviewMichael HA classic '70's martial arts picture; great cast of actors who would go on to star in their own films.
User ReviewJeremy PDirected by Chang Cheh, choreographed by Liu Chia-Liang, and starring the trio of David Chiang, Ti Lung, and Alexander Fu Sheng -- I've been watching a lot of movies from these folks, and for good reason. They're the best at what they do. Which is why this movie would be good no matter what. The film builds to a big finale of five heroes against five villains, and I really liked those villains too, but I was definitely feeling like there was nothing new here. It's about the few survivors from the burning of the Shaolin temple... yet again. A good movie but nothing original. Well, swinging an axe blade around on a rope is a good idea.
User Reviewdelysid daanother great KUNG FU from the shaw brothers
User ReviewIan CThe age old format of betrayal, defeat, retrain and revenge plays out well with an emotional finale.
User ReviewMatthew RDirector Cheh Chang and The Venoms milk their successful formula once again in this story about five students who seek recent on those who destroyed their beloved Shaolin Temple, each of them learning their own fighting style to become the titular Five Shaolin Masters. As with most of Chang and The Venoms' films, the story is not much to speak of, but the fights are excellent. After watching several of their films recently, I've noticed one thing they do well is that all of the fight are consistently good, but they always make sure the final fight sequence is always the best. This sounds small, but it's something that's ruined many films. My favorite example of this is "Blade," which was ruined by the bloodbath vampire rave opening scene because nothing else after that lived up to those first moments. Starring Gordon Liu and Ti Lung, with action choreography by Lau Kar Leung, this is another solid martial arts picture from The Venoms.
User ReviewDaniel TFairly entertaining movie featuring a few kung fu stars on its time. The fight scenes seems outdated but for its time it is good. The shaolin temple is burnt down and only 5 disciples manage to escape out. David Chiang, Ti Lung, Fu Sheng, Chi Kuan-Chun and Meng Fei. David suggest they split up to meet the different allies in the central part. Each of them encounter tough and powerful enemies which they aren't their match. Fu thought the traitor Wang Lung Wei is also another escapee. Wang ask Fu for their secret hand signal and other formation signal but luckily he remember David words not to trust anyone. He bring him back for interrogation. The chief of the ally want David to bring the head of an enemy back to prove he isn't the so-call traitor. Other brothers fear for his safety and join him. Attacking the enemies place, they manage to save Fu and escape but the chief is kill by Wang. The 5 disciples gathers and decide to polish up their skills in the burnt temple which is a good place to hide. After one and half years of training, it is time to gather and attack. Each of them had learn respective kung fu to fight their chosen opponent. They lure the baddies to a place and all split up to fight their opponents. David, Ti Lung and Fu manage to win whereas the other 2 die with their opponents.
User ReviewSteve WWhen their brothers are struck down by the Manchu, five Shaolin brothers decide to hide out and train until they can defeat their oppressors. The movie doesn't have much in terms of story, but a climax full of fighting and a swell cast (Ti Lung, David Chiang, Leung Kar Yan, Fu Sheng, plus more) make it interesting.
