Leave your thoughts about Fingers.
DVD ClinicScott WeinbergFingers works for a handful of reasons - not the least of which is a phenomenal early performance by Harvey Keitel.
eFilmCritic.comRob GonsalvesProbably one of the most naked psychodramas of its decade.
Washington PostGary ArnoldIt's difficult to perceive where a large public might be located for an introspective movie this schematic and unappealing.
Lessons of DarknessNick SchagerA penetrating portrait of tortured, impotent masculinity and the foolishness of attempting to be something you're not.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzIt blends together high and low culture, as Toback bet on this combo to win despite its long odds.
User ReviewAlec NFingers is a spiritual head-fuck! It provides necessary feedback on the duel citizenship between flesh and inner turmoil. Keitel is better in Bad Lieutenant, but he's so immersed as Jimmy Fingers, a man torn between family and artistic integrity. Slowly, bit by bit, he's consumed with the ills of society and his own shortcomings, and it's so fucking tragic! Toback, directing his first script after he sold the superb rights to The Gambler (with James Caan) is as much aloof as he is there. This is what gives the film it's raw, indie feel. It's not a testament of technical adherence, but the journey of Keitel's character, and especially his performance, is one of compliance to the cause. Fingers is probably better now than it was then, and is so good it has been remade by the French. De battre mon coeur s'est arréte' (The Beat My Heart Skipped (2005)). Nothing short of superb!
User ReviewJackson SHad a profound effect on me. I still can't get this out of my head. Anyone who digs James Toback is cool in my book.
User ReviewLee FA great film, very unusual and an acquired taste but a forgotten 70s classic.
User ReviewValerie Ma very peculiar and great film starring the always amazing harvey keitel.
User ReviewJoey BI didnt expect this film to be as dark and incredible as it is. Keitel amazes me. If you enjoy 'crime' 'mob' movies, check this out. It has a very gritty edge, one of a kind.
