A carpet layer by day, Richie dreams of becoming a MMA Cage-Fighting Champion. Both are fearless, living life on the edge, daring each other to surf bigger waves, party harder, take greater risks. But when their adrenalin-seeking antics and hardened partying turns sour, it sets in motion a dramatic and life-changing series of events that threatens to derail everything they have worked so hard for. In an instant, Mark's Big Wave surfing career is in tatters and Richie is facing a jail term. But for these two friends, giving up is not an option. | Sydney Morning HeraldGeorge PalathingalPutting to one side its rough edges, Fighting Fear is another compelling story of contemporary Sydney culture. |
ScreenwizeSimon WeavingA documentary that reaffirms the hard-drinking, hard-partying, hard-fighting values of good old fashioned mateship, as Bra Boys director Macario De Souza follows the friendship of two friends - one a Big Wave Surfer and the other a cage-fighter.
FILMINK (Australia)Erin FreeWith two compelling figures at its core, this engagingly honest and unapologetically positive doco makes for exciting and ultimately moving viewing.
Herald Sun (Australia)Leigh PaatschIf you can wait until Fighting Fear hits DVD or TV -- it would have fared better as a one-hour TV special -- you won't be missing much.

User ReviewPhilippe D"Bra Boys", through its aggrandizement of violent macho behaviour and its propagandistic slant on the character of the Maroubra residents who it portrays, garners a fairly wide audience appeal. This movie on the other hand portrays the two central characters as victims as well as perpetrators of violence, as immature 20 somethings who have now matured and realised the errors of their ways, as noble hard working types pursuing their aspirations to excellence in cage fighting and surfing as competitive sports. As a result it has a somewhat more weakened appeal and at the end turns out to be a relatively mundane sluggish doco targeted to MMA and surfing enthusiasts.
