User ReviewSean WThis is more of the underdog movie of where he is a weak fighter and rises to be one of the best in asia...I enjoyed it
User ReviewJeff RThis movie has a similar feel to Jet Li's Fist of Legend. In typical martial arts movie fashion, you have a young martial artist that meets a lot of bad guys that kick his ass. He then finds a master and trains hard. He then has an epic showdown. A lot of films have this formula. This one though has some basis in history. After all, this movie is based on Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate. The things I liked about this movie are the visuals of the country side and the martial arts fighting. It isn't so overdone and over the top as you see in Chinese films. There is even a little love story. As with Fist of Legend, the Japanese are portrayed as evil monsters of humans. That is understandable as this is a Korean film and what a lot of folks don't know is that Kyokushin Karate was not truly a Japanese martial art. If you like this movie and want to see another more goofy and campy version, check out Karate Bullfighter starring Sonny Chiba
User ReviewDave RBeautifully shot film based on the life of the Kyoukushin Master and founder, Mas Oyama. The film works on so many levels due to the very good martial arts scenes as well as the story which would please both martial arts fans and film lovers alike. Having practiced this style myself and knowing a bit about Oyama, I'd say keep an eye on his fighting style which matches that of Oyamaâ??s perfectly with very powerful short kicks and punches.Arigato Gozai Mashita -Osu
User ReviewRed SFighting masterpiece Korean style, based on the events in the life of legendary Korean martial artist Choi Bae-dal, the founder of Kyokyushinkai full-contact Karate. Also, his life story, philosophy, and martial arts style was the basis for the creation of Ryu for Capcom's "Street Fighter II."
User ReviewLady DVery awesome - highly inspiring story. This is a true martial arts film. Not the typical "guy must revenge his master or something so he trains and then does" plot. This shows you philosophy of martial arts spirit that can translate to anything in life. And it's a biopic. It's goood.
