A one-eyed ferryman finds a baby abandoned in his boat. When the vessel sways the toddler goes overboard. Although it falls into the river, the ferryman does not feel compelled to save it. But the baby does not die, because the river God saves and raises her in his underwater world. 20 years later, the young woman Marija, is hungry for life above water.
