User ReviewKendra EWhy does nowhere have this movie. It is so good. She sells noddles like mad to get the biggest t.v. in her chinese village.
User ReviewAaron LChina in the 90s. A downtrodden people suddenly wake up to materialism and consumerism. A wonderful period piece of a China in transition.
User Reviewdfh dI would have to say that this is THE MOST underrated film ever. The film is beautiful, subtle, sometimes adorable and sometimes almost tragic.
User ReviewLisa RI found this little gem on Netflix. The title character has a layabout old man for a husband and Western-style aspirations, so she takes matters into her own hands to gain a social status among her neighbors. Her initiative is nice to see, but in the end, the material possessions she's able to provide bring only transitory happiness--as they do for everyone. It's well worth the 90 minutes.
User ReviewMattias EWell-made and shows the farm society through a truly unique character that shines a lot of light on the ideals at the time.
User ReviewPrivate UBloody brilliant film - please someone else say they've seen this.
User ReviewMartin VSuch a simple little concept, but such a brilliant piece of character definition and flaw creation in one move. It's a wonderful, understated, character piece. Enchanting.
User ReviewJillian BThe ending was a bit sudden but overall a decent film.
