Chicago TribuneRobert K. ElderEpidemic will never be confused with von Trier's great films. But it is an intriguing introduction to his later cinematic obsessions.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzIt's an obsessed film that is too murky to be great cinema, but interesting enough to remain intriguing.
TV GuideMaitland McDonaghThe scenes from Epidemic have the high-contrast look of a 1920s horror film, are in English (much of it badly dubbed) and feature images that are handsome and preposterous in equal parts -- they're amusing, and too stylized to be disturbing.
CinePassionFernando F. CroceAs meta-doodles go, this one needs better gags
User ReviewJoe Can experimental film for those who love Trier...
User ReviewRussell BThis is truly a cinematic masterpiece. The performances are outstanding and the blurred lines between fiction and reality works fantastically.
User ReviewAnna NMy abolute favourite movie of all times... Masterpiece
User ReviewConor MAn incredible, self-indulgent film. But Lars will have you know self-indulgence isn't always a bad thing. We are brought into his reality, and he wilfully exposes all of his fears, making himself vulnerable, yet forceful. At times, the visuals are just so gloriously avant-garde, but the movie is occasionally tedious. Still, there are plenty of interesting ideas here to go around, and the polished product is near perfect. Just don't look too far into it. Or rather, do.
User ReviewLouis FAn intelligent, beautiful, disturbing work on the nature of film and reality. Dark and brilliantly photographed. Another engaging work by Trier, not wholly accessible for the average film goer, but for the cultured Cineaste out there a real treat.
User ReviewKittil BThe second film in the Europe triology holds the same great quality as Element of Crime. I love it.
