User ReviewDavid HA look into the seminal works of our times. The movies that influenced Sam Peckinpah, Arthur Penn, Coppola, Spielberg, Lucas and the movements they influenced. The dictionary when it comes to the Golden Age of American Cinema. Awesome documentary!
User ReviewJ DI probably wouldn't give this five stars on its own, but as a primer for the uninitiated to the era, combined with the bonus features and as a supplement to Peter Biskind's book which this is based on, this is an excellent documentary. Definitely check out the bonus materials, which give some more background on individual directors, as well as records some of the reactions to when the initial book came out. Ironically, while the book makes most of the directors involved come off extremely unlikeable (and rightly so, in most cases), the featurette with the Biskind interview reveals him to be a whiny, nebbishy coward. Between the book and the movie, no one comes away from this one unscathed.
User ReviewVictor MVery educating and interesting as for the cinema fan.
User ReviewKenneth BExciting, entertaining, informative, sultry, and easily digestible. While many subjects from the book are glossed over or excised, there is enough intrigue to keep cineasts pleased. One of the better documents of the age of auteurs.
