User ReviewJane Cnot many people have seen this one, which is such a shame. despite the silent film medium de Heer has managed to convey both humor and suspense. very entertaining, but perhaps just a little too long.
User ReviewTrent BI saw this film at the Rome Cinemafest in October 2007. It's a silent film, with a beautiful instrumental soundtrack, heir of Charlie Chaplin's and Stanley and Oliver's tradition. A 2007 movie, but directed as a 20s film. Characters have recognizable behaviours. Dr. Plonk is the candid scientist who "discovers" by chance the end of the world. Nobody believe him. So he builds a strange "time machine" helped by his faithful assistant, Paulus, who is mute and foolish. Other characters are Mrs. Plonk, the fat housewife and Tiberius, the dog (the funniest character). I couldn't stop laughing at the end of the movie. The plot is so rich of comical inventions, different and unexpected.

User ReviewMarie-Claude CA very original movie (for today) filmed as a silent, black and white Buster Keaton style. It's the story of a scientist who mistakenly calculates that the world will end in 100 years and sets out to prove it with a home-built time machine.
User ReviewKate WVery entertaining, great props and acting, good comedy.
User ReviewJoel AA cute little ode to silent film filmed all in Adelaide South Australia and really has a lot of charm to it. The story of an inventor from 1907 predicting the world will end in 2008 and creating a time machine to prove to Prime Minister that it does in fact end. Filled with clever gags & really cool set pieces and as silly as it is the film just works. Wasn't a huge success in the Box Office but in my opinion one of my favourite Rolf De Heer films.
User ReviewDavid HThis film was very enjoyable (I start which with a believe that I would find it better that "the Artist", and I was not disappointed, it felt a lot more like a silent film than the Artist and the storyline was much more engrossing and irreverent) the visuals in both the past and present are very good, showing crazed and contrasting technology. The storyline itself is sort of a prediction to the response the film would have to present day audiences.
User ReviewKingsley MOverlong but still an extremely clever and entertaining silent movie by a director who isn't afraid to take risks. South Australians will note many prominent Adelaide landmarks as well as an appearance by the current premier, Mike Rann
User ReviewImola Lwho would have thought I would be watching a silent movie. And it's actually very good. Great perfomrances from the cast (Lunghi not so much).
