Suddenly, the movie moves into a suspense film as the President learns that Iraq has invaded Kuwait and slaughtered hundreds of American soldiers. Setting up temporary communications, the President announces that he will launch a nuclear attack on Iraq immediately if the country does not withdraw. Iraq reacts that they have 23 nuclear missiles trained on the US that they are ready to launch. Tensions mount with the involved civilians offering a different viewpoint to the President from the normal opinions of his advisers.
Leave your thoughts about Deterrence.
Mr. ShowbizF. X. FeeneyThe kind of movie that leaves you with fundamental objections. But that's after it's over. While it's playing, it's surprisingly good.
Sacramento BeeJoe BaltakeA nostalgic throwback to the all-male talkathons of the 1950s and '60s.
Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionEleanor Ringel GillespieThe talk grows tired while the tension, alas, barely grows at all. And the ending is a cheat, pure and simple.

Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionEleanor Ringel CaterThe talk grows tired while the tension, alas, barely grows at all. And the ending is a cheat, pure and simple.
Boston GlobeJim SullivanThere is a palpable edge-of-the-seat tension and a number of complex ethnic issues that linger after the movie ends.
San Francisco ChronicleMick LaSalleOne of the pleasures of Deterrence is that it does not tell the audience what to think.
Movie MomNell MinowThis movie gives teens a chance to think about the importance of a candidate's character and judgment, and to imagine how they might respond if presented with the direst circumstances.
Internet ReviewsSteve RhodesThe movie has more than enough for me to be able to recommend it.
Chicago Sun-TimesRoger EbertI got caught up in the global chess game, in the bluffing and the dares, the dangerous strategy of using nuclear blackmail against a fanatic who might call the bluff.
