Loosely based on Carl Millöckers operetta "Der Bettelstudent," the film deals with the revolt of students and landed gentry in Poland against the authority of Colonel Ollendorf. Two students on the run were captured by soldiers and sent to prison. As Countess Laura rejects Ollendorf's advances, he seeks revenge.
