Movie Reviews

Washington Post - 6/10 by Richard HarringtonAn intense but tiresome underwater version of ''Alien,'' following a Navy crew that uncovers a sea serpent 6 miles deep in the ocean. The women are aggressive; one man is a wimp. But strip away the film`s clean underwater look and you have a predictable monster movie.
Chicago Tribune - 5/10 by Dave Kehr"Save your last breath...to scream" reads the tagline - we advise you save it for the inevitable sigh as the credits roll on this monstrous B-Movie farce.
The New York Times - 3/10 by Janet MaslinEven the fish lack personality in Deepstar Six, a film that makes the exotic undersea world not much more interesting than the average bedroom closet.
Los Angeles Times - 3/10 by Kevin ThomasA dull, routine action-adventure in which the suspense is mechanical at best. Although there are a couple of gory moments, those expecting the jolts director Sean Cunningham brought to the original "Friday the 13th" are sure to be disappointed.
Tulsa World - 2/10 by Richard FreedmanThere are, in short, no human relationships aboard Deepstar Six, just frequent frantic cries of "Mayday!"
User Review - 10/10 by Grant NGreat sci-fi horror movie in deep water, just like Leviathan ;)
User Review - 10/10 by Matthew MI did not know what to expect. I remember seeing the cover at a rental store when I was a kid and always wanted to see it. Then after I finally got to be able to view it I was surprised at how I did not enjoy the movie as much as I thought I would. I liked Abyss and Leviathan but this one does not have as much going for it. The monster is rarely shown and it is just a creature with very little originality. Miguel Ferrer plays a guy who literally screws up so many times its sad and he even manages to explode a nuke because it is procedure. He also kills a man and dies in a escape pod because he does not decompress first. The movie although for many flaws especially bad dialogue scenes has some ok special effects and Nia Peeples who I think is 17 in the picture according to IMDB is good. The main problem I had was how weak the story and the characters were. The best parts were the special effects. The end was weak too. Instead of seeing the monster die you do not really get to see anything much. Overall, I was expecting more not too much but I guess I had been spoiled by The Abyss and The Leviathan before viewing this.
User Review - 10/10 by Kevin LAhead of it's time yet somehow also very antiquated for the late 80s. Amazing.
User Review - 10/10 by Dino BSomething still magical and "cheese" worthy about the sci-fi and adventure films of the 1970's and 80's because they use 'practical' special effects and minimal crayon colored simple digital effects, that said most of the casts are pretty simple minded characters bordering on dumb and or aggressive and even stereotypical to a fault. Deep Star Six like Leviathan are deep water predictable stories that offer little smarts and few scares but remain wonderful fun films of our youth.
