Full Plot Details
After spending 15 years in Brazil, where he held the position of History Painter under the governments of D. João VI and D. Pedro I, and having made extensive documentation in watercolors of Brazilian colonial society in the first half of the 19th century, Jean Baptiste Debret decides to return to France. Accompanied by the Muse of History, Clio, with whom he co-stars throughout the film, Debret remembers the journey that took him through the troubled years of the French Revolution until his trip to Brazil, as a member of the French Mission that D. João ordered to come from Paris.
