User ReviewDennis CThe movie poster really sold me on this one. See Blonde, Red Head, And Brunette in that Billing order. Fill in the gaps with snazzy brits and colonialism era characters.
User ReviewMike KEasily as good as any old school Bond flick and twice as funny.
User ReviewKristal CSuper awesome fun! I wish they still made movies like this. Also, Richard Johnson = dreamboat.
User ReviewBill TA surprisingly decent Eurospy flick. Probably something I'd double feature with From Russia with Love
User ReviewJeremy BA genuinely good effort in the period of the silly spymania movies that either outright spoofed Bond or tried to outdo him. Strangely, Richard Johnson's Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond really has nothing to do with the earlier incarnations of the famed detective and seems to be the character in name only. Nevertheless, thanks to a quite witty screenplay that features interesting characters and some clever dialogue, helped enormously by a cast of very talented and charming actors, this film elevates itself above the dozens of other mid-to-late 60s spy movies. The girls are lovely, lead by the always alluring Elke Sommer and Sylva Koscina, with a terrific -- and sadly brief --appearance by the gorgeous Virginia North. Well directed by Ralph Thomas who never lets the pace slow down. It also features a great theme tune by the Walker Brothers, the lead singer of which is the legendary Scott Walker. All fans of the 60s spy film absolutely must see this film, and its not-as-good-but-still-worthwhile follow-up called Some Girls Do.
User ReviewGraham RA quite charming Bond cash-in from the Swinging Sixties. Richard Johnson is well cast as the dapper Bulldog Drummond, here up against the sinister Nigel Green (who's usually on the side of good, like when he played Nayland Smith in the FU MANCHU movies). As the title suggests, this is all about the women, and both Sylva Koscina and Elke Sommer are quite lovely in it. Campy, funny, colourful and action packed, there's nothing not to like here.
User ReviewTeresa SThis is an excellent Eurospy movie, I thought this was going to be about female spy's but in turn its about the spy Bulldog Drummond and his stopping the assignation of a middle east oil baron, yes even in 1967 oil in the middle east was a big thing. Lots of neat spy stuff, like exploding cigar. Elke Sommer is beautiful as counter agent bad girl, and Richard Johnson plays an excellent Bulldog Drummon, only wished he did more films in this role. 4 stars
User ReviewStephen MA rather gentle spoof of the 007 genre, that nearly trips over itself when it practically becomes a Bond film. Gratuitous shots of lovely women in bikinis with guns, ridiculous gadgets (cigars that fire bullets, anyone?), and a relentless attraction to our leading man from any human creature with female sexual organs. This is as silly as silly gets, but will no doubt have you guiltily admitting to your peers that you enjoyed it, even if it was just for the ladies.
User ReviewMatthew C"I do all sorts of things when I'm tight." Classic British pulp hero, Hugh 'Bulldog' Drummond gets a cheeky Bond style film adaptation. Occasionally funny, often delightfully awkward, and constantly condescendingly chauvinistic, Deadlier Than the Male is a great deal of fun. Chock full of 'That Guy' actors, beautiful women, and deadly assassins (who also happen to be among the beautiful women). And the crazy final chess match almost feels like something out of The Avengers. Great stuff. Unfortunately, Johnson isn't the most charming or dynamic of leads, but he's passable.
User Reviewberta aone of the many james bond ripoffs, but it has killer cigars! (pun intended)
