User ReviewDamien KIf this movie had a bigger budget it would have probably been considered better than "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". If I thought I was in love with Brigitte Lin, after watching "Deadful Melody" I KNEW I was in love with her. Okay, maybe it's not as great as I'm making it out to be, but when me and my room-mate watched it (2 jaded and reserved men) we were acting like jocks at the Superbowl.
User ReviewJenny WGreat Brigitte Lin kung-fu epic, with action out the wazoo.
User ReviewJames Kstaring Biao Yuen, past kung fu's most underated stars, this is another classic fantasy
User ReviewE LBrigitte Lin can't possibly be human. She's much too scary and way too cool, in an otherwise average and unremarkable martial arts film.
User ReviewAnthony Vi miss all brigitte lin's movies. shes soooooo cool.
User ReviewTim M"If you like Chinese cinema action at its most hyperbolic, Deadful Melody will provide as many plasma-arcing explosions as you could ever want. And it's always easy to delight in Brigette Lin looking entrancingly murderous." This zither (lyre in the subtitles) makes people explode! Add Biao, Lin, Carina and Ma Wu and you have an early 90's classic. If you thought the zither (zheng) in Kung Fu Hustle was pretty cool, check this one out, the primitive visual effects are endearing.

User ReviewNicholas SInteresting new wave kung fu film with much comedy and a little romance.
User ReviewMatt WMore wuxia here as revenge obsessed Brigitte Lin battles a variety of bizarre warlords by unleashing deadly melodies from her magic harp, wreaking havok in giant explosions of colour which are apparently untterly undefensible. Obviously this a rather bizzare pretext for a movie and indeed the film revels in its peculiarity and this is the great strength of it - particuarly the motley collection of all-powerful baddies. THe problem with this film is that there is very little sympathy for the heroine and indeed she isn';t even in the movie that much. When she is it's to deliver some dispassionate beats to some defenceless underlings. Not a massive recommendation for this but it is interesting if you're into this sort of thing. It is pretty funny as well, though not always intentionally.....
