Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzThe plodding and talky occult thriller is inert.
User ReviewR.John XThis movie is predictable from the start, and if you read the synopsis on here you'll know everything about the movie. It's not terrible, but it's not worth watching either.
User ReviewLucas B61% The only things that truely stoodout: Two scenes in witch, topless women are hung above sharpened bits of bamboo and whipped (who's your master?), while a group of strange satanic folk watched. And the end of the movie. Thankfully, the story took place in the city of Manila, of the Philippines, witch gave the film a differnt texture, then the usaull New England or Euro feel.
User Review'Syz' 'A 1972 horror movie about witches and starring Tom Selleck. Yes, this was incredibly cheeeesy! It was a hoot being reminded how people dressed back then, and the technology: telephones, cassette players, etc.
User Reviewruss rThe picture usage here is great. I love the dog. The ending was a bit unexpected. I like that part a lot!
User ReviewJoel KTom Selleck totes a .357 Magnum before Magnum, P.I. in this mildly entertaining 70's Sat-ploitation film.
User ReviewRobert PTom Selleck staring at a painting for two hours? That alone is worth a couple of stars. The rest, not so much.
User ReviewBrody MTom Selleck soon regrets purchasing a fiery painting from a Filipino satanist antiques dealer when Rottweilers veer his car off the road and his doppelganger wife starts worshiping the devil. Loaded with heaps of awkward dialogue ("Maybe you have a high paw quotient?") and icky exploitative nudity, Daughters of Satan has nothing going for it but a low budget, willing actors, and one badass mustache. This is a skip. VF.
User ReviewAllan CEven in 1972, Tom Selleck had a wicked mustache. This film has a decent set up for a story about witches, which is a horror film subject that rarely goes well. Selleck is a art dealer who buys a painting depicting a witch burning because one of the witches in the painting bears a strong resemblance to his wife. This sets off a mystery as to his wife and his own ancestral connections to witchcraft and from there the film also gets progressively sillier and sillier. The only reason to watch this film is to see a young, before-he-was-famous Selleck, who even in this dreck demonstrates his on-screen charisma that would later make him a star.
User ReviewKendra JThis suspense thriller from 1972 is anything but suspenseful or thrilling. Tom Selleck (who I swear must have come out of the womb already mustachioed, hairy-chested and over six feet tall) is an art buyer for a museum living in the Philippines who finds a painting of witches being burned at the stake that he oddly takes a liking to when he notices the resemblance between his wife and one of the witches. He brings the painting home and it puts in motion some weird prophecy where his wife is destined to be one of the daughters of Satan. Ho hum. This is supposed to be a suspense thriller, but the thrills are anything but. Probably the most exciting moment of the movie is when Tom Selleck is being chased by a skinny knife-wielding Phillippino man who Tom Selleck attempts to thwart by tossing barrels at him. I think that does have the makings of a great 8-bit video game. Help the skinny knife-wielding Phillippino man dodge the flying barrels! Get to level 10 and you get to stab Tom Selleck for the win! That would be an awesome game. Anyway, this movie is deadly dull and boring and I had a difficult time not falling asleep during it. It's one of those movies where you wonder how it got past the development stages, never mind how it went into production. Props to Tom Selleck though, for making a clunker like this but still managing to have a successful career afterward.
