The Holy Land, 1099AD. The end of the first Crusade. When the conflict began, Christian knight Sir Gregory lead over a hundred men, but now less than ten remain. They include his squire Paul, a friar named George, and the arrogant Sir Robert. George and Sir Gregory discover a holy relic - a fragment of the True Cross and embark on a journey to Rome, to present the relic to the Pope. En route the ship they charter runs aground, their crew dead. Continuing their journey overland, the knights come across three Turkish warriors (two swordsmen and a female archer) and two pilgrims (a woman named Rebecca and an unnamed man) being attacked by bandits. The knights rush to their aid, and after a brief fight all the bandits are killed. They insist on accompanying Sir Gregory and his men on their journey, and the pilgrims also join the group. That night, the male pilgrim and one of the knights both go missing. Many other unfortunate things begin to occur to the group and Sir Gregory realizes that dark forces are pursuing them, intent on destroying the relic. He must find a way to overcome these dark forces.

| User ReviewGrant SDark Relic is a good entertaining movie. Easily the best movie ever made by Sci-Fi Pictures. While that isn't saying much, it doesn't change the fact that it is. Dark Relic is a movie that has average acting, average directing, and an above average script. James Frain is quite good in the lead role. He plays the veteran crusader, who has retired, and is questioning his faith on the way back home, having survived the violence. His character isn't that original, but like I said, he's average. Frain and his veteran crusader team, along with a devout priest, recover a "Dark Relic", the nature of which I won't reveal, because anyone reading this review is probably going to watch the movie, so no major spoilers. The relic is cursed, and hardships and evil follows it. Clemency Burton-Hill also does an adequate job. She plays the scorned peasant, enslaved to the rich nobles. She has become an atheist because she believes that if there were a god, she would not be living in a horrible world like the one she's in. Frain and his crew meet up with a nobleman, along with Clemency. The new group meets up with some Muslim travelers, who ally themselves with Frain. This leads to the strongest point of the movie. It's a surprisingly deep and insightful exploration of Muslim/Christian relations. In fact, the movie is very informative about that relation, and I learned quite a few things (which upon research, proved to be true) from this fantasy SyFy movie. Dark Relic is a film that is better than quite a few recent theatrical films of 2010 (Legion and Skyline, to name a few), and its quite good. in fact, the recently released film "Season of the Witch" which, in fact, is basically the same thing as Dark Relic, except worse. I enjoyed Dark Relic, and I've seen it multiple times, and I recommend it as a good movie. |

| User ReviewSean DOmg, so freaking boring. Back and forth travel, bunch of crap, waste time. The plot was so subpar. Very bland plot about an accursed holy relic, a piece of the original cross that Jesus Christ was crucified on. Where everything falls apart is when they figure out what the relic is. First and foremost, how can a holy relic become unholy? That's ridiculous within itself. And it's just a lot of back and forth plot bs that's fairly empty. |
