IGN DVDR. L. ShafferSlow moving, with cheesy visual effects and some nasty B-movie trappings. But the story and setting are both dreary and fascinating. And performances are top notch.
IGN DVDR.L. ShafferIt's a pretty awesome, ambitious and sometimes very cheesy, apocalyptic sci-fi actioner. It just doesn't hold a candle to Star Wars, its cinematic big brother.
The A.V. ClubNoel MurrayMostly the film just feels too skimpy. The first third is largely taken up in establishing the nuclear devastation of Damnation Alley’s world, leaving just an hour for the heroes’ perilous road trip across lands infested with what Peppard calls “killa cockroaches.” By the time the action really gets cranking, the movie is half-over.
The Globe and Mail (Toronto)Robert MartinDamnation Alley is dull, stirred only occasionally by prods of special effects that only seem exciting compared to the dreariness that proceeded it. What's worse, it's dumb, depending on its stereotyped characters to do the most stupid things under the circumstances in order to keep the story moving.
The New York TimesJanet MaslinThe only real value of Damnation Alley is educational: This is the movie to see if you don't understand what was so wonderful about the special effects in, say, Star Wars.
User ReviewJennifer CI saw this movie when I was 7yrs. old, and it's engrained in my brain. It was the town full of cockroaches that really got to me. Scary stuff back then, something to think about. Great concept for it's time. Still a good watch.

User ReviewStevie SWhat a badass movie! The cheesy special effects are outstanding! It doesn't get any better than a 70's B movie. Seriously. There's giant radscorpions, killer armored cockroaches, radioactive skies, and buckets of cheese! They may have put some money into this movie, but it looks insanely cheap! There's not much of a plot either. They're basically just cruising around in that beast of a truck picking up strays. Honestly though, you don't watch something like this for plot development! It's just quality trash and entertaining as hell!
User ReviewIan RDamn, this movie rules! Kelly really shows off his rock thowing skills in this one.
User ReviewGreg PThe book it ain't; no faithful retelling of Zelazny's story to see here. But it is Cheesy-tastic sci-fi B movie goodness at it's very best, totally tops, a must see!
