Movie Reviews

EURWeb - 10/10 by Kam WilliamsGabrielle Union has never before exhibited as much of an emotional range as seen in this role as an ice princess whose cold heart melts when offered an opportunity with a real man who comes with a ready-made family.
Village Voice - 9/10 by Jim RidleyPerry's indifferent direction flattens everything out: You might fall asleep if his heavy-mitted music cues didn't keep cattle-prodding your ass.
OhmyNews.com - 7/10 by Brian OrndorfDaddy's Little Girls is a frightening step backwards for the Perry empire, revealing a filmmaker who I once thought was just kidding around, but now it turns out he's legitimately incompetent and irresponsible.
Entertainment Weekly - 7/10 by Lisa SchwarzbaumThis latest market-savvy bit of circuit preaching is less cartoonish than Perry's previous big-tent revival meetings.
Chicago Reader - 7/10 by J.R. JonesSubtlety is not his strong suit--all the characters here are either adorable or loathsome--yet Perry has toned down the pandering materialism, evangelism, and black empowerment of "Madea's Family Reunion" and "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," letting his heart-tugging story tell itself.
Chicago Reader - 6/10 by J. R. JonesDismissed by critics but embraced by African-American audiences, Tyler Perry now opens his pictures without press previews, but on the basis of this expert melodrama he might want to reconsider.
Austin Chronicle - 6/10 by Toddy BurtonUnflinchingly addressing issues of class and race, Perry juggles multiple plot lines and the result emerges as (dare I say?) a surprising mix of Frank Capra and Douglas Sirk.
L.A. Weekly - 6/10 by Chuck WilsonPerry has great casting instincts, and in Elba and Union he's matched two gifted, equally gorgeous actors, both of whom seem ready to make sparks fly. If only their director would let them.
Movie Eye - 6/10 by Frank OchiengDaddy's Little Girls is a serviceable dramedy that's slightly outlandish but nevertheless strives to touch the heart with its well-intentioned vibes.
Los Angeles Times - 6/10 by Mark OlsenMore surprising is Perry's inability to write back-and-forth dialogue with any real wit or verve. He is at his best when writing speeches, and some of the film's best moments come when Union is given snappy monologues on the state of contemporary relationships and African American maleness.
