Classic Film and TelevisionMichael E. GrostDeluxe film noir, with rich visual style.
Nitrate OnlineDan LybargerSolid little thriller that inspired Steven Soderbergh's "The Underneath."
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzCynical film noir of obsessive love and betrayal.
User Reviewroger tAn excellent film noir. My favorite scene is the one in which Burt Lancaster sees Yvonne DeCarlo dancing (with an uncredited Tony Curtis). She looks gorgeous, and you just know he's completely powerless against her.
User ReviewKaren MGreat suspense thriller ! Yvonne and Burt are great together!
User ReviewMichael VSpectacular performances from both Burt Lncaster and Yvonne De Carlo. A must see!
User ReviewJake VEasily my favorite noir movie, genre veterans Lancaster (The Killers) and Duryea (Scarlet Street) help to enrich the plot, also starring De Carlo. In an age where these types of movies typically had plots from Pluto, this one is simple: its about deception and selfishness. And it's damn good.

User ReviewRoberto UCriss Cross is my favorite film noir. To put it mildly, this move rules! The film was adapted for the screen by Daniel Fuchs from the novel by Don Tracy, and the screenplay is full of the classical conventions of film noir: a femme fatale, voice-over narration by the film's antihero, notorious gangsters, and numerous double-crosses. Burt Lancaster plays the protagonist Steve Thompson to perfection. He is obsessive, often confused, and a surprisingly weak and almost tragic character. The impact Anna Dundee (played by Yvonne De Carlo) has on him is believable and hard-hitting. Criss Cross fires on all cylinders from the opening credits. Miklos Rosza's fantastic musical score sets the mood for director Robert Siodmak's cynical and compelling story. Franz Planner's cinematography is beautiful; it isn't quite as dark and gloomy as a film like Murder, My Sweet, but the visual world of Criss Cross is still full of shadow. The film is a fast-paced and well-constructed masterpiece. I love this film. The climactic heist of the armored truck is intense and stylish, and the film's ending is powerful and satisfying. Criss Cross is a relentless experience and the high point of the classical period of film noir.
User ReviewRiley HFucking fantastic. Yes, there are a few things wrong with them (studio imposed sirens, for one) and Lancaster is far from at his best, but this is ridiculously awesome. So well shot, it's insane. One of the best 40s noir I've seen.
