User Review - 10/10 by David BBrilliant (and true) story with excellent cinematography. It is 3 hours long BUT if you can stay awake for that long you'll be richly rewarded by this film.
User Review - 10/10 by Peter CA stunning Bill Douglas film. Rarely seen, difficult to find, this is a great film vaguelly about the rise of British Unions, is more focused on the characters who were forced tos truggle through insane hardships for basic human rights. A must- see for anyone interested in cinema.

User Review - 6/10 by Mike BPonderous at the beginning but beautifully shot
User Review - 6/10 by Elgan D3 Hours that dragged considerably. No doubt an important story but the characterisation is poor and frustratingly key points to the plot are carried out off screen.
User Review - 6/10 by Mike MSees in the Martyrs' struggles the origins of unionism, a subject which would obviously be of relevance to the Britain into which it was first released, but is no less so viewed from the perspective of the industrial actions of 2009. If the film has something to say, it's also supremely visual in saying it: indeed, this may be the closest any British film has come to matching the sheer physical beauty of Malick's "Days of Heaven"... The film's political leanings are such that these characters come to be defined more by communal activity - working, singing, gathered round at touring shows - than they perhaps are as individuals; still, in its rough-hewn combination of history lesson, grass-roots politics and folk poetry, this counts as a notable rediscovery, to be filed alongside Loach's "Land and Freedom" and the Brownlow/Mollo "Winstanley" on any serious left-facing DVD shelf.
User Review - 4/10 by Michael Oslow paced 3 hour long film which was very disappointing despite a strong cast. A lot of unnecessary scenes really drag this out. Could have, should have been a whole lot better than this
