User Review - 10/10 by Kristine OSaw this movie at the Saskatoon VIP tour at the Broadway theatre. Would love to see it again. Keeps you on the edge of the seat right till the end of the movie. This is a movie that will be talked about for years. There is no tell of the end as in some movies. The cast is outstanding! Tyler and Renaes performances were excellent. Todd Farmers character was so well played. He was so scary that I don't think I would want to meet him in person. The brilliance behind the storyline is unequivocal! I can't wait for Manes next movie to come out!! I will always be a Mane Entertainment fan! Can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can own it!
User Review - 10/10 by Tracy VWhat an amazing experience! I went in with an open mind, not really knowing what to expect. It was such a great story. As a writer I appreciate the thought that was put into writing the script. It felt very real and authentic to me. Far too often horror movies are all about blood and gore and they lack a relate-able story (although it had some pretty amazing gore scenes). That is what made this movie so fantastic for me. As a true horror fan, there are few movies that have that real creepy factor. This movie had me waiting to see how the story was going to unfold, it was far from predictable. This movie absolutely should be shown in every theater. I left the theater so excited and already looking forward to what Renae and Tyler come up with next. With such rich story lines and talented actors, the skies the limit with this duo. I would love to see them do a romantic comedy to show the world just how diverse and talented they really are. I really hope this movie gets distributed so I can buy the DVD!
User Review - 10/10 by scott mGoing into the theatre last night, I wasn't sure of what to expect. With the names tied to the film, I naturally thought "slasher" film faceoff with a high gore factor. I was pleasantly taken in a different direction entirely and, let me tell you, the ride was incredible! I would categorize this film as a rich, well-built and suspenseful, ghost story. It was like sinking into quicksand, but in a good way. At first, the situation seems familiar and easily dealt with, but as the story unfolds and the characters sink into your mind, you find yourself being sucked in and increasingly unsettled by your surroundings. By the point in the film when all hell breaks loose and the cards are all on the table, you are on the edge of your seat, gripping the chair and enjoying the ride. You may notice that I'm not spilling a lot about the actual story, but this is a film you'll want to see without spoilers or a clear breakdown of plot, so you're getting nothing from me! I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed the build of this film. It is rare that you see a story structured this well. It is a fresh departure from the Hollywood formula that often leaves the viewer two steps ahead of the movie. I was taken along with the story, not the other way around, and it was fun. The performances were spot on with each performer uniquely suited to their role. For example, Muse Watson is solid as the fading head of the family with a violent past and numerous demons in his closet. Who better to compliment this than Mane as the son who is now the alpha male in the house, capable of going down the same abusive road (and perhaps a hair away from doing so), but fighting the urges to continue making the same mistakes as his father. And who better to threaten these two powerhouses than the menacing figure of Derek Mears. This type of past/present reflection is also seen wonderfully in the characters portrayed by Leslie Easterbrook as the weary step-mother and Renae Geerlings, as the son's fiancé, as they explore exactly what being a part of the family truly means. Acting was grounded and sincere with a script that tapped into a natural dialog in spite of the supernatural circumstances in the story. To point out shining spots would be to name everyone in the cast. Is it perfection? No, but even the imperfections seems a bit crafted. Any wooden or awkward interactions to be found happen within the first 15 minutes of the film, but seemed stylistic and purposeful. Like a slight-of-hand that sets the viewer up for one film, then rapidly pulls you to a place you don't expect. On a side note, it was great to see the actors in the film given an opportunity to stretch their skills beyond the "masks" we may be accustomed to them wearing. The fact that Mane was a major creative force on this production speaks volumes for his potential and leaves me looking forward to his next work.
User Review - 10/10 by Kevin BThat was pretty really great. I really enjoyed it. It wasn't nightmare scary. Although it was still pretty scary at times. I didn't want to leave to go to the bathroom once. And it wasn't just because I went to the bathroom before the film, I really was in it throughout. I have to tell you what my buddy who was there with me said after the film. He is a very honest, no bs sort of guy. Among many things he said, here are my three favorite: 1) That was the best horror film I've seen in many years. 2) It's not even a traditional horror film, it's sort of like they are redefining what a horror film can be. And, my favorite 3) Do you think they could teach Tyler Perry how to shoot and edit a movie? On another note, I just want to say that I am really impressed by the energy Renae and Tyler bring to the whole screening event. You both looked genuinely stoked to be doing what you were doing and looked as if you were really excited to be there. That has got to be so tough doing that screening after screening etc. But your love for each other and the movie you both made really shone through. Kudos!
User Review - 10/10 by Mave JWhen a son returns home to his father after twenty years of silence, he doesn't come alone. Showing that horror does not require excessive blood, gore and sex, this film spins a tale of abuse, redemption, and family as Gary, a father plagued with progressive dementia, faces a threat he helped create. Not knowing exactly how to combat what can hardly be touched, Gary throws everything and the kitchen sink into his fight against this evil spirit to save what family he has left. From the amazing mind of Renae Geerlings, and starring Tyler Mane (Rob Zombie's Halloweens), Derek Mears (Friday the 13th 2009), Muse Watson (I Know What You Did Last Summer), and introducing Alex Saxon, come along and battle your own demons as you watch this masterpiece in action. Filmed in only 18 days, what this cast and crew have done is remarkable and inspiring to say the least, making this the perfect film to debut Mane Entertainment. I for one am looking forward to their next addition and you should be as well.
User Review - 10/10 by Scott TGiven the film history of the cast members I was frankly expecting it to be more violence, and less story driven, when in fact it is a story focused film and only Violent in story related, realistic ways, which i always find more creepy then over-the-top, blood gushing stuff. It isn't that I don't enjoy some mindless violence but those films have been done to death and what I really want is to care about the characters in a film and to have a story that doesn't seem like all bad luck and circumstances. This film is well written, and the story makes you feel like the characters are all struggling with real word issues even in a supernatural based setting. All the cast does a great job, Tyler Mane is great as the lead and connects to the role in a way that makes it very relatable. Muse Watson is fantastic and brings to life a character you both like and dislike at the same time, a great balance. Derek Mears is really good in this as well, pulls your attention to him whenever he is on screen and makes me tense just looking at him. Renae Geerlings, Leslie Easterbrook, and Alex Saxon round out the main cast and each brings to life a character that was believable and that seemed connected to each other. I was was also surprised the film didn't have that "Indy-film" low budget look that so many seem to these days. While I am sure this did not have the funds of a regular main-stream Hollywood film, I could not tell that in watching it. In a time when I sometimes feel that I have seen the best part of films just in the trailers, it is refreshing to be see a film that is not predictable, and that does not fit easy into any one category in terms of type. Good job, Mane Entertainment, I am looking forward to your next film.
User Review - 10/10 by Sarah HI got a ticket from AJ Rickert-Epstein and my film classmates joined the event in Columbus, OH. I have to admit, I was impressed. The music emphasized the scare factor 10 fold and the makeup/special effects were fantastic. As an aspiring special effects makeup artist, I paid attention to these details closely. My favorite aesthetically intriguing shot was the scene with the ribbons in the tree. The colors of the fabric just POPPED while the background remained subdued in almost sepia tones. It incited this surreal, mysterious, and nostalgic emotion from within me. One of the best camera angles of the film was the "rolling head" technique. Never seen that done before AJ ingeniously tried his hand at it. The back story of the family tradition and bonds was fascinating and I would have loved to have seen that extended. The actors had a burning chemistry that could have incinerated the movie screen before our very eyes...much intensity. The film was engaging and I flinched in my seat numerous times. I give Renae Geerlings, Tyler Mane, AJ Rickert-Epstein, Muse Watson, Derek Mears (he was terrifying), Leslie Easterbrook, and Alex Saxon major kudos for their hard work and skill. It's a provocative and incendiary team that I would join in a heartbeat.
User Review - 10/10 by Laurie MSpooky, scary movie with just enough gore but not too much. Great story line, characters with depth. This movie builds momentum and then carries it right to the ending. If you like really scary movies...the kind that seem like they might really happen...the kind that might give you nightmares...this one is for you!
User Review - 10/10 by Aarika HAwesome story, great acting! I loved it <3
User Review - 10/10 by Teresa SThere have been a handful of independent horror films that redefine our perceptions about the horror experience. Movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Evil Dead, and The Night of the Living Dead are a few. These films scared and thrilled us in unexpected ways and were rewarded with huge cult followings. Compound Fracture is a movie destined for the same kind of following. It doesn't use marketing gimmics like Blair Witch or Paranormal to lure its audience. It doesn't rely on CG and lavish sets to distract us from a film's shortcomings like Prometheus. Instead it relies on solid story telling, fine acting, and just enough twists, scares and giggels to keep us scrunched down into our seats. The biggest fault with this supernatural thriller is that it is the kind of movie you will want to watch over and over again.
