Leave your thoughts about Colonel Redl.
EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyBrandauer renders a strong performance in this biopic of the Jewish and gay military officer, though the film is not as powerful or richly detailed as his portrait in Mephisto, also directed by Szabo.
KPBS.orgBeth AccomandoWorth watching for Klaus Maria Brandeur's performance. He's a riveting actor.
User ReviewSuse SAn astonishing film (based on actual events) and a performance that has left me in awe of Brandauer.
User ReviewDave RBranduer is the real thing. Very potent exploration of corruption and ambition played out with every opportunistic driven moment.
User ReviewRégis CWhat a fantastic film. Well worth tracking down. Mephisto is a great film , too
User Reviewsur sEveryone's smiling in the beginning. Redl is the Colonel of a real tragedy. Despite being a great Austrian nationalist, the odds of his heritage and homosexuality were against him and in the end there is only the scrap of a man who pushes others away as much as they push him away. But I was laughing at the Archduke's final scene!
User ReviewByron BYeowsers this film is masterful. The most powerful ending to any film I've ever seen.
User ReviewMark KSimply a great movie. If you can, get your hands on it and watch it today.
User ReviewSandor UVery good Istvan Szabo film. Not quite as popular as some of his other films, but still worth watching.
User ReviewPenny FA really good film that I remember liking a lot thanks to Brandauer who as usual is astonishing
