VarietyRonnie ScheibThis mostly black-and-white, dreamlike yuletide fable does possess its own dorky DIY charm.
Village VoiceAaron HillisAs a Lips completist, it's at least worth enduring for its homegrown resourcefulness, all General Electric stoves and found industrial objects, but that's the thing about experimentation: Sometimes it's destined to fail.
Film ThreatChris GoreLike Ed Wood with a decent budget and a vision impaired by mind-expanding drugs, Christmas on Mars is about just that.
Boston GlobeJoan AndermanWarmth and humor, Flaming Lips calling cards, are nowhere to be found.
User ReviewScott KImmediately belongs in the category of must-see fantasy films, along with The Wizard of Oz and Star Wars.
User ReviewDavid HGotta see it. Low budget with big stars and a heaping helping of acid-trippy goodness. Wayne Coyne is very believable as an alien (no stretch there). Oh yeah, the alien monsters are very NSFW, not for sensitive audiences.
User ReviewMatthew MThe best rock band produced movie I have seen in a long time. The film has an amazing vision and unique style.
User ReviewSéamus MInstant cult classic. The Flaming Lips waited a long time to make this exactly how they visioned! It's EXTEMELY loud, to produce the desired intensity!
User ReviewWilliam D1) I don't like The Flaming Lips 2) Rarely does a movie with 'Mars' or 'Christmas' turn out to be watchable 3) This film touched a deep, universal truth in my soul, and it did so with an absurd amount of vagina imagery. See it now, in theaters, if you can. DVD Nov. 11, enjoy this new Christmas classic!
User ReviewRyan CCaptures elements of 2001, Eraserhead, and Holy Mountain. I was a smidgen disappointed at the scanty amount of psychedelic imagery. But what was there was intense and brilliant. And there was plenty of other styles of absurdism. The beginning experience was my favorite part. The music & sound was wonderfully atmospheric and bizarre, very Zaireeka. Watch with the volume on HIGH.
