The Straits Times (Singapore) - 7/10 by Boon Chan... when put together, the two A-listers come up short in portraying the relationship of two men bound together by brotherhood, blood and money.
The New Paper (Singapore) - 7/10 by Joanne SohYen gives a fine performance of a man willing to do whatever it takes to survive.
South China Morning Post - 6/10 by Edmund LeeChasing the Dragon will be remembered more as a Donnie Yen showcase than a Crippled Ho biopic.
Hollywood Reporter - 6/10 by Clarence TsuiA pale reboot of the mobster-biopic genre Wong helped make a cornerstone of Hong Kong cinema in the 1990s.
Starburst - 6/10 by Scott ClarkThe problem is that you've seen it all before. By the end, Chasing the Dragon feels like a stylish retread of Jing Wong's early hits, full of great performances from dependable talent, but missing the scuzzy edge that made his early films so strong.
easternKicks.com - 4/10 by Harris DangChasing the Dragon is a bombastic failure as a throwback to 90's gangster films, as a Donnie Yen acting showcase and worse, as a Wong Jing exploitation film. The only thing the film ends up chasing down is its own tail.
User Review - 10/10 by Gareth DHonestly one of the best movies I seen I just wished I saw it last year! Donnie Yen proving he a actor not just a martial artist . He does cripple ho so well that I am shocked to see a actor more than just a martial artist . In this movie you meet a man called ho and his brothers from China coming to Hong Kong to make a living. First starts off with them getting a ferry into Hong Kong and then when they get to Hong Kong we see a scene where they are paid to get into gang fights back in the 1960s in Hong Kong was a normal thing. Then he gets arrested and in prision meets Andy Lau character. I not going any further it's just a basic film a man rising to the top. The movie has a a stunning cast of Chinese actors and one of those gangster films to remember indeed. All I will say Donnie Yen acting was superb also it was a movie that wasn't focused on action but a movie focused a a word phrase and it mention multiply times " Life or death, poverty or riches. It's all destined." Also it's based on a real life mobster too. So check this movie out.
User Review - 8/10 by Mike PFrom a small city, Ho (Donnie Yen) earns his way to the top of the Hong Kong underworld in business dealings along with Lee Rock (Andy Lau) who is a cop that took his own control. Donnie Yen throws down as a great portrayal as Ho. He lets off very stiff emotions interacting with his family. Andy Lau is still the cool guy that goes on his own path of destruction. The settings is very 60s like as said in the story of Hong Kong. Characters gone from good to bad, violent acts, it very much made the movie what it is supposed to be. You'll see some Donnie Yen fight scenes but he's not going expert on anybody like most of his martial arts epic. This is a crime drama for certain. Chasing The Dragon is the type of movie you can enjoy if you like those crime boss roles.
User Review - 8/10 by Dessy Ba very fun romp with Donnie Yen and Andy Lau. Other Condor Heroes saga alumni also made appearances, see if you can recognize them :D
User Review - 6/10 by Chris NSeems a remake of the old movie. Andy Lau is getting very familiar to act the 0.5B Detective.
