New TimesLuke Y. Thompson...some who see this film will laugh at its protagonists, others with them. A little of both feels about right
User ReviewJoseph RBetter than "The King of Kong", just had to get that out of the way first. Ghosts takes an honest look at the video game craze of the early 80's and the nerdy assholes who wasted all their time in arcades. Fascinating, thorough, and somewhat depressing, Ghosts stands out as being a much more comprehensive look at gaming in the 80's than Kong could ever hope to be.
User ReviewTom DGood film. Paints some of the gamers in a bad light, but that's a fault of the film as well as the individuals. If you enjoy retro gaming, you should enjoy this (if you can find somewhere to download it).
User ReviewSam AThis documentary is like a sequel or prequel either to "king of kong" a documentary that I adore. This documentary "chasing ghosts" has that same you choose what side on kind of deal like "king of kong" had.Besides looking at only few video game "pros" they look back at the whole bunch how they started the whole videogame craze in the early 80s.There is some like small moments were its just pure gold. What amkes this work as a documentary is it got me interested is something I had no knowledge or care about.
User ReviewJeremy CThis movie is better than King of Kong. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
User ReviewJason CNostalgia is bittersweet. Best be mindful it's not all you've got. A fascinating study the arcade scene of the 80's and the pitfalls of extreme nerdorm. Less pop than Kong but more rewarding.
User ReviewZane TWhen arcades began getting popular in the late 1970's and 1980's, they ushered in a new level of championships, most of them teenage men who for a lack of a better word, were nerds. People like Billy Mitchell, Ted Rogers, Ben Gold and Darren Olsen were stars among their the video game enthusiasts who pumped mountains of quarters into Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Centipede. Their time at the top was short-lived
User ReviewMichael KDid you beat my record using only 1 cOin? Guess not huh? Try again son! This documentary scratches the surface of the magical era when the masters of the arcade machines walked the streets. Branching off from "The King of Kong" this tries to explain how it all started in Twin Galaxies in the city of Ottumwa, Ohio. Those were the goOd old magical days. I remember it myself as a younger lad spending hours in the arcade trying to beat the local Kings high score. This movie is very entertaining and very exciting if you like arcade machines....and games...and masters/ge3ks. Very well produced with nice 3D effects of some of the games. I feel this movie is WAY too short and could easily be an hour longer so we get more to the bottom of things. Loved it though :D
User ReviewTrain MOnly nerds need apply, it's a fun watch for us.
User ReviewArdy OWhile a good movie, it was pretty sad to see how many of these guys have nothing to grasp onto besides their former glory. I think I did like the King of Kong more, but this one was good at showing a broader range of the gamers in the day instead of a dramatic clash of the titans type movie. ... $14,000 for a piece of erotic art yet he still lives with his parents? Eesh.
