User ReviewBrent BThis is a movie I saw in the 70s, as a youngster, on Friday night Chiller Theater. It has a great story that has always stuck with me since I was a kid. It is based on the classic Edgar Allan Poe work called Danse Macabre. The movie is in black and white and is French with English overdubs. Still, highly recommended for die hard horror fans.
User ReviewRandy TLove this film! Perfect Gothic horror atmosphere.
User ReviewBruce BPretty good 1964 Movie, about a writer who while sitting and talking with Edgar Allen Poe in England accepts a bet from another man in the room to spend the night in his castle, the Castle of Blood on all souls night when the dead shall rise at midnight and live again by seeking the blood of those who are alive. For 1964 its worth every bit of 4 stars.
User ReviewAj Vall hail barbara steele! and poe, of course. i loved the slowness of the pace and the story itself. it took me a while to get into the story, to be honest, all that blah blah at the beginning at the inn, but once they got into the carriage, it was just pure magic!
User ReviewCamden NA surrealistic, atmospheric, gothic minor masterpiece that evokes a similar feeling to Bava's gothic masterworks. Throw in Barabara Steele and Edgar Allen Poe, and you have a nice little gem of 60s horror. Margheriti sculpts schadows into a chilling chiaroscuro that provides loads of creepiness on a relavitly non-existent budget. No special effects or gore--just a simple gothic story that blurs the line between life and death.
User ReviewNick TRefined piece of gothic horror from genre's golden era. Not really scary at all, but very atmospheric.
User ReviewWK Jatmospheric and strangely sexual. it's hard not to have a crush on 1960s barbara steele, anyway.
User ReviewAndrew BIt was enjoyable... as most black and white movies are... what do you expect?
User ReviewDave KA horror movie about Edgar Allen Poe starring Barbara Steele and directed by Antonio Margheriti. A film best served late at night.
User ReviewBill TAtmospheric and creepy little haunted house movie. The Italian title is best--"Danza Macabra"
