However, her parents are becoming impatient with her lack of progress and urge her to apply for civil servant work at the local job centre, Next Step. After a strange interaction at the employment agency, she catches up with her friend Jake to discuss the progress of her video game. Carrie is shocked to find out that her close friend is giving up on his ambitions to find a steadier career path. That night, Carrie comes face to face with the local neighbourhood watch's otherworldly conduit, a giant sheep monster, and discovers all the young people are being brainwashed into mindless civil servants. Known as the local heroes of the town, these essential workers provide a noble purpose to society. Realising she is the next line for repurposing, Carrie must now go on her path alone as she comes face to face with her ultimate existential fear.
