Cinema CrazedFelix Vasquez Jr.Near as awful as previous versions, but it still manages to be lousy.
Film InquiryZac HestandThe 1990 Captain America shows the viewer, and any aspiring filmmaker, how not to make a superhero movie.
Radio TimesJohn FergusonAlbert Pyun is a competent director of sci-fi and martial arts action movies, but this tough, brooding comic-book fantasy suffers in comparison to other big-budget superhero adventures, and Salinger lacks charisma as the hero.
PopMattersW. Scott PooleCaptain America may be a bad film, but its true to the source material and its creator is clearly respected.
7M PicturesKevin CarrFor as charming as a piece of 90s nostalgia this movie is, as a whole it's not that good.
VarietyLawrence CohnSalinger has some good moments dealing with the cultural shock of his Rip Van Winkle reawakening, but film never takes flight under Albert Pyun's leaden direction.
User Reviewmy nWhy do people hate this movie? Sure, it's cheesy and silly, but it's still an action packed thrill ride. There's just something in me that just adores this flick. I loved the sinister Death Skull, I found it dazzling and spectacular, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I guess this is my biggest guilty pleasure.
User ReviewStein-Erik RHoly shit, this was amazing. Everything about this movie was pure excellence. The rubber ears, the horrible make-up, Captain America's repeated "Can you pull over I'm feeling sick" getaway trick - all brilliant. There is no kind of awesome that the movie wasn't.
User Reviewtyler gAlthough corny and cheesy, I still greatly enjoy this movie. One of the greatest superhero films I have ever seen.
User ReviewMatthew MI wanted to see this movie because the nostalgia critic did the review but also because I was interested to see how they pulled off Captain America in a low budget film. It was not the worst movie I have seen but it was very bland. I guess there were some moments that were funny. It just felt weak. You expect that comic book heroes would be more exciting to watch however there was little enjoyment in the movie. I guess it could be because of budget constraints. Overall, I guess I did not expect much so I was not as disappointed.
