| Movie NationRoger MooreIt’s as interesting a failure as I’ve run across this year, a hollowed-out holiday wallow in regrets that wear into scar tissue, the only thing that dulls the depression and justifies the fatalism of seeing all your deferred dreams and delusions, bad bets and poor choices come home to roost in a single day. |
| The Hollywood ReporterFrank ScheckVery little about what happens is very interesting, with the contrived situations and artificial-sounding dialogue giving the proceedings the strained feel of a mediocre off-Broadway play with a misjudged air of profundity. |
| User ReviewVince MThis is a wonderful, very funny, brilliantly written and directed film! It is a dark comedy / drama from screen writer Scott Marshall Smith. It stars John Larroquette and John Rhys-Davies. Both give very powerful, outstanding performances and are wonderful together. They are so good that you totally forget that Larroquette once played Dan Fielding on the 80's sitcom "Night Court". Rhys-Davies performance is so grand that you get see him as an even bigger character than Salah, from "Raiders Of The Lost Ark". The movie takes place in an indoor mall, in the year 1994, on Christmas eve. At this point in time, the transition from modern film to even more modern digital film and equipment is about to take place. Larroquette is a long time manager of the camera store that at one time he owned. Rhys-Davies plays his long time employee and friend, Both find themselves confronting their personal issues as well as business issues as they try to keep the camera store in operation trying their hardest not to have to fold under the pressure of the digital world, but also not giving into their uncaring, unfeeling, wealthy, boss played by Paul Ben-Victor . There are a lot of great characters in this movie as well, and all have a purpose and a reason to be here. There is a mystery girl played outstandingly by Maddie McCormick. She befriends a guy who is sent by Paul Ben-Victor's character to observe Larroquette and his way of running the store. I don't like to give away to much of the story of the films I review, so I'm going to leave things at that. I will say this is that a very funny movie. I laughed out loud several times and when I left the theater I couldn't stop telling people about it. It is in limited release so see it as soon as possible.
