Seanax.com - 9/10 by Sean AxmakerThe original story is credited to Moss Hart... but it was all about the production numbers and the spotlight dances by Powell.
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 8/10 by Dennis SchwartzStrictly for those who love showbiz nostalgia.
Kansas City Kansan - 7/10 by Steve CrumTuneful, danceful, full of laughs too--fun MGM series entry.
User Review - 10/10 by Private UI love this movie. Jack Benny is hilarious.
User Review - 10/10 by Asif KEleanor Powell just fantastic amazing tap dancer!!! And Robert Taylor a hot leading men. Great story and production =)
User Review - 10/10 by Michael TThis a lavish, frothy movie with terrific music, great acing and outstanding dancing. The story is thin--young Broadway producer needs a leading lady and can't see that she's right in front of him. Lots of snappy dialogue, mistaken identities and sumptuous costumes. The dancing, by Eleanor Powell, Nick Long Jr., June Knight and Buddy Ebsen is first rate. The singing by Frances Langford, June Knight and Robert Taylor(!) is also great. Robert Taylor was very young but holds his own with established pros Jack Benny, Una Merkel and Sid Silvers. There's no message here, no deep thoughts, just top notch entertainment.
User Review - 8/10 by Melissa HGreat music. 1936 seems much more dated than the 1938. Buddy and Vilma Ebsen's breakfast song is the highlight. I will enjoy watching this again and again!
User Review - 8/10 by Byron BThis one was a lot of fun. A nice paced plot with some funny comedy, and some great dance numbers peppered through out. Powells show stopper at the end is a sight to behold. How the hell she spun so fast on tap shoes is beyond me. Only complaint is Ebsen didn't get more to do.
User Review - 8/10 by Keiko NThis classic musical revue takes a little while to get going, but when it gets going, boy does it get going! Jack Benny is a great thread throughout the song and dance numbers and his comedy scenes are a real treat. The thin plot concerns a singer who seeks out her high school sweetheart in NY now that he's a big time Broadway producer. The song and dance numbers are great - especially the ones with a young Buddy Ebsen and his sister Velma. The movie doesn't have a whole lot of substance, but it has a lot of style. It's a fun, light-hearted classic that evokes an exciting feeling of the heyday of Broadway musicals
User Review - 8/10 by Curtis JAmazingly this Hollywood trifle about a Broadway producer, his ambitious High School sweetheart and a gossip columnist who harasses them while they try to mount a big Broadway show holds up. The songs are great including "You Are My Lucky Star", "Broadway Rhythm" and "Sing Before Breakfast." and the production numbers are top form. Even the humor manages to still be smile inducing if not laugh out loud funny.
