And this is just the beginning of Amelia in Bread and and her journey from going to 30 year old uber virgin to now being chased by, uh, two "men" who want to win her heart. I'm a guy and while I don't usually watch romantic comedies, I realized I hadn't seen one in a long time and I decided to check this film out. Hollywood doesn't make these types of films anyone and as an indie lover, I'm glad that the indie world hasn't left it either. Bread and Butter is the type of film that feels like a singular vision when most of the stuff these days feels like film by committee. What I like about this film is how authentic it feels. Bit not the boring authentic, but the type of authentic where people are saying things you you wish people said. It is people you are entertained by in their heightened mundane reality and the deep deep issues they work with. These days, people are trying to avoid reality. But with Bread and Butter, reality is hitting you like a sloppy dildo right to the face. I'm a big Moynihan fan. I think he's great on SNL and I think Lapkus is going to blow up. It's a super weird cast but you learn to not only fall in love with them, but you actually feel bad for them when things get real near the end. Check it out. It's an oasis from all the CGI over provided crap out there. It will make you see reality even when these characters barely can.

The performances are understated yet effective, and Christine Weatherup's Amelia is likable in spite of her naiveté and flaws. I like that Amelia and her suitors have genuine flaws that are not merely adorable "quirks," but which have consequences. The direction is heartfelt and authentic, and it's clear that director Liz Manashil, her actors, and her crew felt very strongly about the story they were telling.
User Review - 10/10 by Ron WIf "Bread and Butter" is playing at a film festival near you, or it picks up a distributor as it hopes to do, then by all means seek it out. Seen at The Phoenix Film Festival, it's a wonderful take on a modern search for a (very late blooming) love life for it's leading lady. Perfectly cast, written, and filmed - and the soundtrack is fantastic, you'll be rooting for her even if neither of her first dating partners are the one for her. Still, she learns and you love her for it. Wonderfully so, no character here is black or white, good or bad, right or wrong - just like all of us, and that's what makes this film ring true. All of her problems are not nearly solved by the film's end, but you leave seeing her better equipped to face and eager to try all that life has to offer. Word of advice - don't see this with your mother. In lieu of a real boyfriend our heroine here makes ample use of the next best thing, but cinematically in a very discrete way.
