TheShiznit.co.ukBecky SuterBrawl In Cell Block 99 will get all up in your face, your brain and your stomach and make you see Vince Vaughn in a whole new light.
HeyUGuysStefan PapeAfter watching this excellent piece of cinema, you'll never watch Wedding Crashers in the same way again.
Los Angeles TimesJustin ChangVaughn’s performance is riveting in its containment, and he honors his character’s ethos by making sure that every word, glance, gesture and silence counts.
ColliderBrian FormoThe acts of violence that must be committed to be sent down multiple levels within the maximum-security prison are indeed gruesome but everything is grounded in the best performance of Vaughn's lifetime.
RogerEbert.comSimon AbramsIf you are willing to suspend your disbelief for 132 minutes, you may find yourself head-over-heels for this film's brand of gross, thoughtful pulp fiction.
Stream on DemandSean AxmakerIt could have turned into a lurid spectacle but it's also an intelligently-made crime thriller with a strong performance from Vaughn and a script that grounds the violence in emotion and devotion.
The A.V. ClubMike D'AngeloEqually remarkable and counterintuitive is Vaughn’s performance. He pulls a Bruce Willis here, shaving his head and substituting intimidating stillness for his trademark motormouthed hyperactivity. The transformation suits him surprisingly well.
Eye for FilmJennie Kermode[Vince] Vaughn has significant physical presence but we never lose sight of Bradley's vulnerability, and even though we know he'll be the victor in the early bouts, we never know what it might cost.
Blu-ray.comBrian OrndorfUnbearably ugly at times, but in all the right ways, presenting an exploitation pummeling that's moody, grim, and utterly mesmerizing.
StarburstJoel HarleyAs it drags its reluctant antihero down to the depths of a Salo-esque torture prison, Brawl in Cell Block 99 is, quite exquisitely, the ultimate feel-bad prison movie.
