Movie Reviews

ESplatter - 8/10 by Steve BiodrowskiBorderland takes this libertarian view of paradise (no law, no government, just rich people doing what they want) and turns it on its head in a particularly brutal and ugly way, without expressing a political point of view in a heavy-handed way.
IGN DVD - 7/10 by R.L. ShafferBorderland teeters between a torture film and a spiritual thriller, but it also plays around with both genres in very intriguing ways.

Cinematical - 7/10 by Scott WeinbergBerman balances the weight of the actual events with the desire to mount a simply effective horror story, and I think he pulls it off quite well.
Reel Film Reviews - 6/10 by David Nusair...one can't help but admire any film that features a villain with a penchant for saying things like "I'll decorate my bedroom wall with your skin"...
IGN Movies - 6/10 by Scott ColluraEvery once in awhile, a film can defy expectations, and Lionsgate's Borderland is one such case.
User Review - 10/10 by Jesse PRider Strong was awesome. Martha Higareda was hott. Best horrorfest movie this year. Great movie based on actual story -- not events.
User Review - 10/10 by Tony CGritty, suspenceful and full of tense sequences Borderland is one of the best Horror films to watch and it is also one of After Dark's watchable films and it is also the first best After Dark Horrorfest film second goes to Jim Mickle's Mulberry Street. A really nice movie that is based on a true story about the case of Adolfo de Jesús Constazo who killed a University of Texas Junior Mark Kilroy in the spring of 1989 where the plot of this movie centers on three College Students who are celebrating they're vacation after graduating from College in Mexico where they stumble upon a Human Sacrifice Cult group when they're friend Phil has been captured by the cult group they're journey turns into a nightmare and they need to fight the cult members in order to survive. The concept of Borderland is realistic and it also follows the true story of the murder cases that happened in Mexico along with Adolfo De Jesus Constazo murder of University of Texas Junior Mark Kilroy in the Spring of 1989. Borderland has similarities to Eli Roth's Hostel only darker and grittier than Hostel. For films like these Borderland is a film that really beats most Horror films and Borderland also keeps the viewers from watching the film on every level. It is a film that mainly scares viewers with the true cases of Mexico's crime murders. The first 15 minutes of this movie is really full of suspense and tension and the suspense and tension in Borderland is really unsettling and unnerving and everything is really serious much more serious than Eli Roth's Hostel. Like Hostel which just focus more on the on screen violence than the suspense and tension Borderland is a film that is more serious than Hostel because the concept of this movie is more realistic and true to the murder cases of Mexico's murders and crimes. The film itself is really realistic and full of tense sequences. This is a film that is a force to be reckoned and the movie carries the right formula than Hostel. Borderland also has a really darker atmosphere than Hostel because Hostel focus more on the on screen violence instead of focusing on the suspense, tension and atmosphere. Borderland is not like Hostel that focus too much on the on screen violence. Borderland focus more on the suspense, tension and the dark atmosphere plus it not only focus more on those Borderland also focus more on the true story of the cases of Mexico's murder and crimes along with Adolfo De Jesus Constazo's murder of Mark Kilroy in the Spring of 1989. While Borderland not only focus on the suspense, tension and atmosphere and the true story of Mexico's murders and cases along with Adolfo De Jesus Constazo's murder of Mark Kilroy in the Spring of 1989. Borderland also focus more on the graphic violence and torture as well. Borderland is a force to be reckon on the history of torture cinema. The first 15 minutes of this movie is sheer on the brutality, gore and graphic violence. For the first 15 minutes of the movie there are lots of violent sequences that are really suspenceful and intense. The slicing of eyeballs, the cutting of limbs, the cutting and butchering of every body part like the arms and legs along with the biting and ripping of tongue and lips plus the slicing of tendons with Machetes and Butcher knifes is one of the most violent and unsettling moments that makes viewers not want to look with their own eyes in the history of torture cinema. Usually this film doesn't also focus more on torture violence but it also focus more on human sacrifice because there are certain scenes where the cult group are praying for their God whenever they perform a human sacrifice on every person is mainly a Human sacrifice other than torture violence. There are lots of brutal scenes as well in this movie. Phil's Sacrifice is one of the nastiest and the most disgusting scene in the movie because the way they sacrifice him is really brutal and intense when the cult leader slice his tendons with a big butcher knife and bit his lips is really disgusting and disturbing. While the most brutal scene in this film is Henry's execution and death in the Motel where the cult group ambush Henry in the roof and Henry tries to defend himself with a pipe until the group proceeds to hack him with they're Machetes is one of the most brutal scenes in Horror movie history. The acting is really good. All of the casts did a good job with their performances in the film. Rider Strong(Cabin Fever) did a good job with his performance in the film. The beautiful Martha Higareda did a good job with her performance in the film and she is also beautiful really beautiful and gorgeous in the film and Lord Of The Rings actor Sean Astin did a good job with his performance as the bad guy Randall in the film and he really did a serious and good job with his performance in the film. Director and Writer Zev Berman did a good job with his work with this movie and he really focus as well on the true story about the cases of Mexico's murder and crimes along with Adolfo De Jesus Constazo's murder of University of Texas Junior Mark Kilroy in the Spring of 1989 along with the suspense, tension, atmosphere and the violence of the movie. Overall Borderland gets a 10/10 because this film is Gritty, suspenceful and full of tense sequences. One of After Dark's best films this is first best second goes to Jim Mickle's Mulberry Street.
User Review - 10/10 by Cheewai LFlawless execution, a must for any self-respecting horror movie fan.
User Review - 10/10 by Nicholas WExcellent horror film that spins the drug war into a harrowing, visceral obra maestra that's not entirely unbelievable. Strong cast with humanized characters; I love seeing Damian Alcazar again (loved him in La Ley de Herodes).
